Laptop..Ideas

Im looking for a cheap laptop, for around 200-250 dollars. Gibralter Trade Center has computer shows and sells things for CHEAP. My cousin got a p90 16 meg for 120 there (gateway 2000 solo). Im looking for one just to have in my room and to do icq, and maybe some laid back Halflife. I dont have room for a desktop, so I want a laptop. Any ideas on what specifically to get?

dood get a book pc kuz yer not gonna get any decent halflife outta 200$ worth of laptop. I cant even play gamez well on my dell 366 w/128mb ram. and its a LOT more than 200$ the video cards in them suck. look fine for windows and displays all graphics well, but UT runs @ like 12fps on my laptop! rofl. Book pc sells for like 100$ if i remember and you can get a cele 700 for 75$ and have a pc thats only another inch larger than a laptop but it is at least 3x as fast as a 200$ laptop.

Book PC? I get 10 fps on my gateway now for halflife (voodoo banshee) and its not too bad. I play TFC on a server where I am an admin, and its got a server side DLL with noclip, etc.

Ok wait! I have (let me count $) 300 but that'll be reduced to 200 if my mom remembers that I bought 256 mb ram (which btw JD I got, from OCZ.) I also want a laptop for around 200$ for my room (making 3 machines!) I want it for AIM/mild (like 5 pages a day) websurfing. I would like a cd-rom out of convienience, but that isn't a biggy. It'd HAVE to have a NIC so I could network CDroms or something if I had to use the cdrom, or just transfer programs on to it. Above 90mhz would rock, and just enough ram to get IExplorer loaded and maybe (MAYBE) visual basics 6.0 - Don't wanna turn this in to any other type of thread than it already was. Are there any good sites that sell what I'm looking for? I dislike e-bay b/c I always get outbid at the last second. Ideas?

Let's recap...this could also go for Halflifer (maybe)

Processor: 90+ mhz
CDrom: Would be nice

NIC: Definately
AC Adapter: Definately

Battery: Not necessary
Screen: TFT i think cuz dual scan is annoying

Color: White compaqs are goofy looking

anything but them

Navigation: Touchpad but I guess I could use an external mouse

Hard-drive: 1gig+
Ram: 16 minimum

you won't get much for that $,even win ME needs a minimum cpu speed of 150mhz.

For me, just Win98

I know 98 can run on an older 133 i used to have...dunno bout half-lifer.
