Everquest - who here plays
I use to play when it first came out in 1999, but quit back in 2000
I hear the game is a totally different game now, and I am real tempted to pick up evolution to try it out for curiositiy.
So just curious who here plays and what server?

Haven't been on the forums much lately but I wanted to add something to Preet's suggestions. Deciding the right class early on is the most important thing in EQ because it takes os long and is such a pain to start over.
Basically if you don't mind alot of down-time to refresh mana(med) and don't mind not having people to talk to while you play then you can choose a solo class like the druid, necromancer, or Magician. Other classes solo to a lesser degree including Beastlords, Rangers, Bards, Wizards and Shaman.
If you like more of a fast pace and being in the middle of the action I'd choose a melee based class. Monks, Rangers, Warriors, Paladins, Shadowknights, and Rogues. Monks are the specializers in "pulling' and plate classes, especially the warrior specialize in 'tanking' or holding the mobs attention while the rest kill it.
If you like to take frequent breaks from the keyboard or are constantly being pulled away from the keyboard by real life matters then I'd suggest a solo class, or a pure damage dealing class like the wizard, rogue, ranger, or magician. It;'s very easy for you to go AFK in groups as a damage dealer and not piss people off. If the warrior, cleric, enchanter or even monk (if puller) go AFK then the group will grind to halt or even die.
I know you said you picked a cleric (which is usually an in demand class) However THE class in EQ is the Enchanter. Bad ones abound but the few good ones are like gods. Plus they are dealers of mind buffs, which all the casters beg for like crack cocaine. It's even called 'crack' in game lol. Afetr about level 20-25 enchanters can ALWAYS find groups and will often have to go anonymous to prevent group offer spam.
I talked to an old friend of mine about why it is so hard to cheat in EQ and it does have to do with all the action taking place server side. Basically all you can really do is listen to the server/client handshakes. You can possibly snoop like this but it's hard to effectively do any hacking.

Thanks for the info
Well I use to play EQ way back when and thad a few different classes,
So this time around I wanted to try something totally different
To be honest I am not much of a solo player, never have, these games are just too boring to be solo, that how I see it anyway, if i wanted solo i would be playing morrowind or the new D&D game
So I wanted something that would always give me action, where a group really depends on me...and just try something different
if class like cleric dont work out and i quit so be it...probably be something new out there by then anyhow
sow hat server ar eyou on? Does it have a good low level population or eveyone 50+
Right now playing on stromm but dont know anyone at all
One last thing, they have truly changed EQ it is almost like a whole different game back from when I played it.
It like learning a whole new game entirely..lol
I'm on the Kane Bayle Server. Says European but it's full of US as well. I have a RL friend that plays on here as well.
Server makeup is alot of mid levels still. There's noobies and high levels but it's one of the more recent servers.

I think Merc (my Warrior) was created around december of 2000. So he's almost 3 years old. It did take me along time to level him up but I had some good friends on Xev server who were dependable groupmates.
I made Merc on Xev server but just recently transferred him to Kane Bayle to play with a RL friend. Server transfer wipes out all gear and money. I can twink you out on Xev if you like since I transferred Merc's bank contents to an alt there.

Hehe yea, I just got re-addicted after my transfer to Kane Bayle. We took down the Avatar of War last night in Kael Drakkel. I tanked the statue of Rallos Zek and actually stood up!! What a rush.

You can have both my accounts on Saryn, well for a price hehe i have a 53 Palidan well equipped and a 50 Druid on a second account i sued for powerleveling mainly. But i am done with EQ. Email me if you are interested robertteal@hotmail.com
HAHAHA my friend's mom (he's 28, so don't picture him as a fat nerdy zitty faced teen, picture him as a fat , cynical, woman hating, kinda zitty faced guy who doesn't leave his house instead) didn't pay the cable bill for 4 months... Now he's forced to not play EQ anymore, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...
Welcome back to the land of the living, you stupid *&%#@^&$#&$@$%$
He's been playing that damn game since november 1999. It took over his life.

Well it's funny because now when he's suddenly bored senseless, he comes crying for his friends, who he said he didn;t need anymore, who are not there, because they've long abandoned him years ago when he decided EQ is more important than time with real people. That's why it's funny to see it all slam back in his face, the smart ass he is.

I had 2 accounts, main characters on torvonnilous. 60something rogue, 56ish warrior, 48-50 cleric on second account and tons of 30-45 toons, mostly like rangers, monks, etc.....
I stopped playing about a year ago, was causing marital strife.
Trust me, real life is worth more than the 1000000 plat or the ornate chain patterns or the elemental plate molds.

Then maybe you should devote mroe time to the marriage, or get on with yourself and get a divorce and find a mate who also likes EQ.
Then you can be the stereotypical EQ couple who sit around and do nothing but get fat and play EQ all day and live their lives through a guild. You will sit in chairs that reek of ass... You will move your desk away from hers when you have a quarrel about who gets the phat lewt off Inny... And then you will let everyone in your guild know about it... Then when you get the urge to make up, you will do so in game by moving your character over to hers and sitting directly on top of her so it looks like you're sitting in each others laps.. How cute!
Your biggest worry will be if the Ranger your wife has been grouping with recently lives down the block and is to blame for he reasonsings behind your wife actually suddenly starting to leave the house every day for a few hours.
On second thought, don't get a divorce. Please get marriage counseling.
