Any solutions to control an application's bandwidth usage?
Any solutions to control an application's bandwidth usage?
Is there any way to put caps on bandwidth usage for programs? Lets say I wanted to allow 200kb/s for a program, and leave the rest for my day to day work, would there be any way to do that?
Unless the program has an option to throttle, probably not at the application level.
You can look up QoS - quality of Service
Some firewalls allow protocol-level throttling. Mine allows me to dedicate a specific amount to my VPN tunnel, for example, so my other activities don't crash the pipe or cause timeouts.

anything is possible - nothing is free

I got curious about this question and did some searching.
Found this on another forum
quote "The first one is bandwithcontroller who is great for limiting bandwidth on a network and which you can download here... http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com
the drivers are NOT xp signed yet, but don't mind it works great..
The second one is netlimiter, which i use to limit bandwidth from the internet... I couldn't find yet the port that Kazaa lite uses , so i couldn't limit the bandwidth for this with bandwidthcontroller and so i found this second program who is too easy to use because everything appears in there what uses internet and so you just limit what you want...
you can download netlimiter here...

Both are functioning 28 days and then you have to purchese but they are cheap...
