No Signal To Monitor Problem (big mystery)
Hey, i just built a new computer, and i'm getting no signal to the monitor.
I got a brand new cpu, working volcano 7+, a used twice gf4 ti4600 (by me), used 40 gig hd, brand new toshiba cdrw/dvd, old network card, and old soundcard. ALso i have a new monitor.
BTW, sorry for the sloppy next few lines, i compiled the post quickly from another forum.
I took everything out, no beeps. My case is weird, it's got like no speaker or something on it.
I just tested with an old monitor, it works fine ( the monitor ). I also tried a working video card and it still doesn't work. Removed all but 1 stick of ram, still not working. God a brand new mother board. the ECS k7s5a, and still doing it.
Sorry about the multiple posts, not trying to bump or anything, it's all at ther same time anyways. But yes teh card is compatible, plus i tried a different one i know works. My suspicions now is that the cpu i bought was sent broken, or the psu somehow.

Make sure the end (comp.) of the monitor/comp. cable is plugged in securely to the vid. card's point of insertion. Test by peeping at the monitor while moving end (horizontally and vertically; also, hold in different position for 3 secs. b4 changin position) of monitor/computer cable. If message disappears at certain positions but reappears at others, then there may b a "pin" prob.

Welcome to the forums
I have a few questions:
- First what type of monitor are you using?
- Have you re seated the video card?
- Does it work when you try it with another monitor?
- Is the VGA cable double terminated? If so be sure both ends are properly connected.
- Does the video card work in another system?
- What size PSU are you using in it and have you checked the requirements of your proc against it?
Dam I sure do have alot of questions.

I answered a couple in my post i believe, Well i tried with an old NEC monitor, and a new one (lcd) both 15 inchers. I did re-seat the video card, tried 2 different ones, gf4 and gf2, Doesn't work when i try a different monitor, the cable seems fine, works for other computer. The video card works in another system. I have a 250W psu. Should be enough.. =/
See if anything here can help you.

I would think that if it was the processor, the computer would just sit there and do nothing. If the processor was good, as well as the mobo, you'd hear the comp start up, hd's spinning and accessing, just as if you turned your monitor off at the switch. AntiSocial, does your computer sound like it's working?
I have a computer that was working for several months, a hand-me-down, then the whole video portion went out. I have no way of telling if it's the mobo or the CPU since the computer does nothing. Turn it on, no hd activity light, nothing. Now I have to replace both the mobo and the CPU.
I'll try the mobo first I suppose.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

It does sound like it's starting up. I have the cd drive connected and i could open and close it and stuff. And i hear the hd being accessed, but the hd led isn't going at all. I just bought a new motherboard though like today.
Would this be a possible scenario -
I had an old motherboard and old processor. MSI something and a 1.2 thunderbird. The cpu burns out, and the mobo goes with it (somehow) I buy a new cpu not knowing the the mobo could have been damaged, and it destroys my cpu. Get a new motherboard and it doesn't work in it because the cpu is damaged ?

Well...that could be very possible...but before you give up.....
Some more questions...does it post at all? A single beep?
If not...also look to see if your memory is properly seated...
One more thing, make sure your power supply is turned off before moving cards, or reseating anything. A lot of new mb's, will still have juice to them.

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.
On the mobo., there should be LED pins (H.D.D. LED, reset, etc.); Make sure the corresponding plugs (which are labeled) are plugged (with the words facing upward) in the matched pins (2 or 3, for each category i.e. H.D.D. LED) . If doubt arises, remember (or write down) the original config. and experiment (use different combinations).

Front panel connetors are in. I thought i might have been a dumbass because my motherboard doesn't support the 1.3 ghz duron, but i just got a working 1800+ amd xp from my cousin, and it STILL DOESN'T work. Omg there's nothing that could be wrong. Unless the motherobard just got broken, or the harddrive is somehow preventing it from working, otherwise, i have absolutely no idea.

AntiSocial, I am experiencing the EXACT same problem.
-Verified the monitor/cables work
-Removed all unnecessary cards so it was just the the Mobo, Hard Drive, and RAM
-Have the ECS mobo plus Pentium Dual Core CPU.
-Used the onboard VGA connector also tried PCI Geforce card.
No matter what, I couldn't get a signal too the monitor... no POST... no nada... no beeps. The mobo powers up... the fans spin... the HD spins up....
just no signal. Tried removing the RAM as well... I should still get a signal and see POST but no luck. Am SUPPPPER frustrated.
Only thing I have yet to fool around with.... which happens to be something I suspected early on and what FREDDY mentioned a couple posts above this....is checking to make sure the Jumper PINS are in correctly (positive and negative in the corresponding positions). Regardless, I am doubtful even that would cause a lack of signal... but I have nothing else to try at this point.
Holy Sheep Sh*t... LOLOL.. I just noticed how old this thread is.
Please tell me someone has figured this out since its conception?? LOL

AntiSocial may may fixed it, but since he never came back, maybe he didnt lol
You tried it with the Mobo, hard dirve and RAM? WHata bout just mobo CPU and RAM?
Did you verify the monitor works? reset bios? if you have onboard video you may have a jumper to enable or dsiable it.
It could also be unrelated to the video signal too so do check all the jumpers.

This happened to me after successfully building several computers. I finally figured out that I was shorting out the Motherboard because of different mounting hole configuration. I tested by putting the MB on top of a cardboard box and booting from there. It worked fine. Looked and saw that I needed to remove a mounting stud that was shorting out the board. It had the very same effect as what he is describing. I could hear the HD spinning up, all the fans worked work, but absolutely nothing on the screen.
It will make a person sweat after they just spent several hundred dollars on new components!
