What OS?

Sounds like a memory leak to me, Win9x is bad for this, system resources are being eaten up

Maybe try Mother board Monitor and see if your CPU is crapped

Disable all that junk you don't need in your systray.
That should put you back in the game.
Also defrag your hd.
Keep your hd clean and to a minimum, the more full it gets, the slower it gets.
Clean out your registry
As your registry gets larger, your system becomes less efficient.
Organize your folders in Windows Explorer.
Create sub-folders, instead of just installing in root (C:\)
ie, make a games dir, music, media, etc...instead of say C:\Sierra\Half-Life\Counterstrike
use C:\Games\Half-Life\
These are all basic things you can do, but they will give you a nice speed boost.
My K6-2 533 can give an Athlon 750 a run for its money easily, because I have it optimized nicely.

Did you possibly install a 'copied' version of ME? From win98 on, there are some amazing antipirate tools that microsoft has. Usually the os will install, but it slowly self distructs. I have that same problem, but for differant reason. Windows goes though a process of decay over a period of time. My computer will usually only last about five or six months before I see things like that happen and I have to reformat.

Good luck.

Fanta... I have an amd 550, with a very clean system and I am on par with a friends amd 900.

maybe i do have a copied version

How could you not know whether or not you have a warez version of ME?

Best to let Windows manage your virtual memory.

One way to cause memory leaks is to open a program & then close it before it fully loads. This is particularly true with MS products such as OE & IE & especially any MS Office products. You must allow the programs to full load prior to exiting them por they will stay partially resident & bleed resources.
