lets not forget that this is the first generation of AMD's new design. So i wouldn't be making any judgements just yet. Give it till the second generation or even third and AMD gould make the Opterton (and eventually Athlon 64) a lot better and faster!

kind of an unfair comparison, don't you think? and besides, there isn;t much out there yet to really take advantage of what the Opteron has to offer.

unrefined? immature? (the Opteron, i mean) sure. but "suck"? i wouldn;t say that. just my opinion, mind you. not trying to say your opinion is wrong.

and also..... can you give more info on how poorly they perform compared to an Athlon MP? i have read a bit to the contrary. yes, the margin isn;t huge (yet), but the side-by-side comparison to the newest P4s would seem to prove the opposite to be true.

Waiting for the software to catch up is not an enviable position for a hardware manufacturer. This hobby/ vocation is about what you can do now.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

"We" are jacked.....
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

At this point, the MP's actually fold about the same as the Opterons. It will change when 64 bit programs, not just an OS become available to them. When...

the operton doesnt need a 64bit OS to get it going, it needs higher frequencies.

they need to offer 2ghz and 2.2ghz, and that price HAS TO COME DOWN!

Without 64 bit programs, it is only a bit better than the Barton class. For AMD's sake, I hope Adobe, who is usually very quick to adopt, markets its programs with 64 bit extensions.
