I have read several posts about ram timings and I cannot grasp the concept. I understand it involves oc'ing but what does it really mean. 6-2-2-2??? I went through my bios setup throughly and cannot find anything that is 6-2-2-2 for memory sticks. Any explaination is appreciated.
Thanks

So tell me this. Is there a certain value I should set for my particular ram, motherboard and cpu? Do I set the values by trial and error? I am sorry for all the questions but I am a OC newb.
Thanks again

if you are not overclocking your memory bus then you should be able to use the fastest timmings your mobo allows
so set them all to the lowest number and see what happens
don't forget to take before and after benchmarks to see if there was any increase in memory bandwidth, use sandra and aida for that
just noticed your sig, even if it is oc'd you should still be able to run with fastest timmings, you have good ram there, it'll take it, i run the same stuff on my canterwood setup
but most of the time yes, its trial and error

Hey Chimdogger..check out this presentation on Corsair's website. It's goes through timings as well as how the memory bus interacts with the chipset...very informative.
Hey chim, I understand that you may wanna experiment with these settings but truthfully (based on my experience), I would say DONT mess with CAS Latency, for thatz critical enough that it may prevent you're computer from gettin 2 bios...
One time i changed my ram timing from 3 to 2 and it was ruined for good (my comp. didn't get to bios screen n e more; it froze every time). The only way for me 2 fix it was by buying a ram with the cas latency timing of 2 that i set it 2.
