IE

Post by jesse23 »

I just got a quick question.
Whats the fastest Internet Explorer around?
IE 5.0
IE 5.1
IE 5.1 SP1
IE 5.5 or
IE 5.5 SP1

TIA
Jesse

I was very happy with 5.1 SP 1, and heard some bad things about 5.5 so I wasn't gonna upgrade.

Recently, I went to Windows ME (with 5.5 of course), and applied SP1 to it and have had an increase in speed. Not a lot, but a little. Your mileage may vary!

Definatly IE 5.1 SP1

I am running WinMe and that, as WhoNut said, comes with 5.5..... blah!

Everyday I come closer and closer to re-formating and re-installing Win98se. Less lock-ups and less hesitation on applications opening.

I had the same probs as you my man, but stick with it! My machine is very stable now for a 9x kernel machine. I agree, it shouldn't have to be this hard, but it is....

Now my 'puter boots faster, stays up longer, and performs better with lower resources. 98 gave me fits whenever I got below 70%. Of course, every machine is different.

Either do I but I need to play some Q1 and win2k doesnt support it so I went with the best (?) platform for gaming WinMe? I dunno about that. Win98SE was real strong for me.

Gotta love the option to remove the upgrade and return to the old one :)

ME is just an transitional OS, more coming soon. Agree w/ the go back option.

5.0 and 5.1 are both very fast, and 5.5 as everyone knows, sucks big time.

I just figured out that Netscape was installed on my comp at the factory along with IE. I think i'm gonna try Netscape out. If i set it up? Will it automatically switch my default browser to Netscape. If it does, i'm not gonna set it up because i just got my IE all tweaked perfectly and i don't want it messin up. :D I have never tried Netscape before.

That is what I used forEVER! Then one month ago I went for a change and got 5.5, even after knowing all the problems. I figured I could start over if neccessary...

Needless to say I am running 5.50.45 and have been for 2 months now- no problems WHATSOEVER! No crashes either, same speeds too.
