help!

Post by Nspyr »

im building two identical budget systems:
p4 1.7 ghz
abit sr7-8x mobo
ati radeon 9000 pro vid card
256 ddr ram
wd 40gb se hdd

one works perfect... my problem is the other one doesnt work at all....
when i press the power button, the cpu fan and vid card fan turns on... all the LED lights are on...i hear the hdd drive working.. but nothing else... the monitor doesnt turn on.. its not the video card..cuz i swapped the video card from the other system.... i also tried a pci video card, but still nothing...

it just sits there .... i have no clue what is wrong....mobo? maybe? did they forget to put in a bios or something...im going crazy... please help...thanks

I doubt it.... I doubt it.. but I think it's worth a try to swap or just plug it in with the ohter one.. see what happens...

Also check yer cmos battery.. however I do not think that's the problem...

tis odd.. no beep.... .do u have a nic card that has like a few leds in it and such?

Also make sure everything is snug tight!...

I agree with the psu problem, but once i had a similar problem with my first pc i built and it turned out that when i screwed the mb down i left a loose screw underneath the m/b and it was shorting out...removed the loose screw and all was well.

I know, it was pressed down against the bottom of the case pretty hard and my board was bowed a bit.

interesting... it works!!!

since it was a "budget" computer i did not use AS3...i was desperate...so i took out the cpu cleaned it of that black tape muck that it comes with stock..and applied AS3...

however i do not think that was why it worked because on my first bootup...the same thing happened....

only after i was thinking bout the "beep" i remembered that i took off the speaker pin and reset, hdd led pin things.... so after i hooked those back on...i turned it on...and voila, BEEP!! and now it works fine....i am still baffled... but everything seems to be working fine.... i wonder what the problem was... and thanks to everyone for their inputs.... oh ya and i took out the cmos battery for a while too... still puzzled of why it works now...
