put those silicon things in shoes in your computer?

Post by Onethenumber2 »

Those anti moisture silicon packages you put in shoes that say do not eat.

I know guys who put them in their guitar cases to keep moisture out.

If you wanted to keep moisture out of your comptuer would it be a good idea to put those packages inside your case??

Would the heat make them smell bad or anything else bad?

Not a bad idea at all

If you placed them right by your intake fan u would think it would be ok and would grap 90% of moisture

I really don't think they would amount to anything...they're designed for very small volumes of air...in sealed packages.

Notice gun cases, guitar cases, jars of vitamins....all have very little air inside of them...and it's pretty airtight when closed. That's when those silicon balls can absorb moisture over time.

Some computer parts are shipped with those little silicon packs...such as higher end graphics cards...but they are always in sealed antistatic bags...again, very small volume of air.

It would probably take a coupe of bags of the stuff the size of a glad sandwich bag to amount to any moisture reduction in a computer case....and regardless...the fans in our case which move mass volumes of air across the case would negate that...they need still air and time to slowly absorb moisture.

YeOldeStonecat is right they would need to be in a close space in order to work.

Put like 30 in there then?

Few in the drive bays, few on bottom. Tape them to the case! :D :p
