I seem to have to reboot mine every so often, and when I do it does help.

You'll know when/if, because sites start to load slow.

Some good equipment mat not need it, but my Netgear RT311 router and Samsung Info Ranger modem do. It's an irregular thing, but every so often it seems to clear out the cobwebs.

I used to have a Linksys BEFSR41 router w/a Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS modem and never had to reboot either. Then I swapped the Linksys router for a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router & I had to reboot it all the time...until I upgraded the firmware. I can't remember the last time I rebooted it.

If you're having problems, see if there's a firmware upgrade available for either/both. That may be the cure you're looking for.

Good luck.

There's a lot of variables, some peeps do, some don't.

Many different things can cause a broadband modem or router to lock up, where a reboot is needed. Quality of the modem and router, also the firmware of the router (later versions are usually better), many other things like little surges in the lines, etc.

Well there's certainly no harm in rebooting either the modem, the router, or both. I know back a few years, routers still in their infancy, such as the Linksys routers with early firmware, needed almost daily rebooting. But the firmware has greatly matured, and they're quite reliable.

Other routers, like the one I have at the office, the Symantec 200R which is a specialized Nexland Pro800 Turbo with extra VPN features, I can't remember the last time I rebooted that...I think when I was working on the rack system, just unplugged it to relocated some lines. Been running for around 2 years fine....under extremely heavy load too (6 meg DSL line, heavy mail server, service department downloads...gigs and gigs a day)
