Ever take any form of Martial Arts?

Post by EvilAngel »

If so, what form and how long did you take the classes and what belt/sash did you acheive?

I just got started with Karate-Ju Jitsu class and I wish I would have started that a long time ago... It's like my new "computer" ya know? :D

ANyways get to spar with all walks of life... after class I feel at peace with the world... it's really great!

I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. Not sure Evil, each belts test got harder and longer as you rose in rank. More to do for each, along with everything from previous belts.

At least a couple of hours though.

Indeed. Those styles are still being taught.
The most useful technique I learned was "sticky hands" (yuck it up). With the lightest touch I can sense in which direction someone is about to move. Practical for my profession, avoids severed tongues.

Sticky hands = Burning Shoulders.....lol

We did sticky hands for an hour tonight and my sparing partner is one of those testostrone driven hardcores.... we were to just do the motions but ended up getting some solid blocks and punches....

the lighter the better though...

In college for three years. I then practice with a friend on occasion, though not lately. It is fanastic exercise.

*L* You know the art.

Where I practiced Kung Fu, we also had a class for Ju-Jitsu. The sensai seemed found of blocking his students kicks with his testicles, or so it seemed. Quite the hardcore bunch.

I used to assistant my old boss in training law enforcement departments, mostly in CAS expandable batons, PR-24, OCAT (Oleo-Resin Capsicum Aerosol Training), MOAB (Management of Agressive Behavior)....anyways, in MOAB, there were a lot of various techniques involved, and one of them we studied, and trained of for a bit, was a form of Ju Jitsu called "small circle". Amazing stuff. I forget the masters name, don't even know if I'd recognize it again...but it was really incredible to see such a small guy manage attacks from large guys....and very effortlessly.

It is something I wished I had taken up more formally in my younger years.

This guy wouldn't happen to be a small stocky built Irish guy would he?

This is who trained me when I was in to law enforcement.

It's kinda expensive and fun at the same time though... go to bar, drink beer, fight!

I have been fighting ALL my life... street style... the more classes I take the more I realize that the less I actualy knew....

you'd be suprised to see how a 135lbs woman can manhandle a 320lbs 6'5" man.... thsat happened at the studio the other night... the guy was a orange belt and the woman was a black... but damn...

There all quite different.Kickboxing is like you watch on television.Boxing with karate kicks thrown in.The ju-jitsu I have done involved alot of grappling on the mats.Taking a joint like a wrist or shoulder and twisting it in a direction it was not designed to go.Go with ju-jitsu for self defense.Kickboxing for sport and exercise.IMHO
