Graphics query

Post by halkwind »

Thanks for the help on the cpu settings :) but here i am again guys ;) This time its alittle query on a graphics card. Im a little budgeted on money and my local store is selling an (OEM) Geforce 2 MX-400 64 Mb SDRAM graphics card. Now is this for an AGP slot that supports 1.5v AGP4x mode, also note the (SDRAM), im using ddr dimm memory, does this make any difference or do i have to use the same memory type as the graphics card or vise versa. ive been told it dont matter, but since you all seem to know what your talking about i make sure here :D

oh yeah before i forget, if everything is ok with the card, is it anygood for gaming ??

cheers ;)

Lol, no dude relax the memory on the graphics card and the memory on the motherboard does not have to be the same at all. The Geforce 2 mx isnt the best out there but u should be able to play newer games at 800*600 no problem especially since u got a 2 Ghz processor.

Thrash the gf2 mx, never get mx cards they really s**k a$$ :D
If i were you I'd invest a little more and get a gf3 Ti200 or even a gf2 GTS. ATI Radeon 7500/8500/9000 are also much better choices.... ;)

Once had a geforce pro 32mb ddr, and I bought a gf2 mx 64mb sdram to replace it (don't ask me why I don't know, guess I was conned by that pretty salesgirl :( )

My old gf pro gave me 2200 pts on 3dmark, and the new gf2 mx gave me 1400 pts LOL

Thanks for the help yet again :) im trying to save up for the last part for my custom pc thats why i wonna budget a little on the graphics card,( can get a better one later) I want a (Seagate- maxtor) 120Gb 7200rpm hard drive. I guess the higher the rounds per minuite, the better it would be for data transfer? good for gaming? One thing i really need is space, Lots of it! I find my 20gb on this computer is nothing since i download music all the time and i want to give online gaming a go ;) any ideas on some great online games? ive heard Quake arena is a good shoot em up, what about some of latest RPG's ?

as long as you are comfortable knowing that you're really not making an investment here...

I'd say get the gf2. Although, maybe you could find someone willing to sell you something used? Three times, I've sold things on here for money orders or checks before.

In fact, I'm sure that's your best bet.
