Wireless config

Post by johnny511 »

I currently have one PC connect to a Linksys BEFW11S4 (Wireless router) that also provides my cable internet connection. I have a second PC and an Xbox that I wish to connect to this LAN using a WAP11 (Wireless access point) and Linksys BEFSR41 Router. My goal is to access second PC from the first as well as first PC to Xbox. Cant seem to get this to work though. Any siggestions on configuring the second router (BEFSR41) ?

Thanks

The WAP11 must connect to a router or hub. I wish to connect it to 2 computer thus am using the router.

I'm confused too- why the second router, and why the WAP11? The BEFW11S4 is a wireless access point, so why do you need another one? Please explain your layout a little more, and what you're trying to do.
Observe everything...focus on nothing..

The WAP11 and second router are located some distace away from the BEFW11S4 (network with main PC and cable internet connection). Its a separate network with a PC and Xbox on it. I would also like to retain wireless networking with my laptop. If I bridge the 2 networks I would loose the WAP11 function as access point. I am trying to configure the second network with the WAP11 as a wireless client.

WAP 11

Can you run a Cat5 cable from the WAP to your wireless router?

That would eliminate the need for the second router and should give your complete wireless coverage in your home.

I have a similar setup here.......works great.

Or is that not possible?

You can use two WAPs to bridge two network segments, not sure if you can do it with a WAP and wireless router. Maybe someone else can step in, I have never set up a wireless network that way.

If I understand you correctly you want to use the second Router as a Switch to Accommodate the WAP11.

First attach the Xbox, and the computer to regular ports on the second Router. Configure the computer to an IP that is in the band of the Router’s IP. Log to the Router’s menu and disable the DHCP or any other special settings.

Log to the WAP11 menu disable the DHCP and any other special settings, and configure the WAP11 to work as a Client to the Wireless Router.

Change again the computer IP back to Auto so it will obtain the IP from the Wireless Router.

I do not know how to config an Xbox but it should not be a problem.

Important: Under this configuration you are using the second Router as a Switch do not plug any thing into the WAN port.
