Question: Does the rest of the world celebrate Christmas too like we do?

Post by Brent »

You know how we have Christmas on the 25th of december, and it is winter for the most part, and we have days off from work, and colleges have winter break, and it is the holiday season and we all buy lots of presents for other people, and for christians celebrate the birthday of jesus..

does the rest of the world do all that too?

i just wonder if anyone outside the US has a christmas morning and exchanges christmas presents too

like Australia? and other countries? etc...

here in the Netherlands the whole coca cola thing (the good old jolly santa) is becoming bigger and bigger every year.

But the presents things has been around for quite some time though it isn't as big compared to the USA

We have a more national celebration 20 days earlier called Sinterklaas.

(notice how familiar it looks) Sinter Klaas ---- Santa Claus

Sinterklaas or Sint Nicolaas (Saint Nicolas) was supposed to be a Turkish Bishop who gave presents to poor children. For a very very very long time this has been celebrated in the Netherlands on the 5th of December by giving the children presents.

Sinterklaas rides around on a white horse and wears red clothing

The coca cola people who came up with what Santa Claus is supposed to look like took a very very good look at our Sinterklaas... (maybe we should sue for copyrights :D )
You see, the rat's also a Ventriloquist.

Christmas!............. it's too comercialised (er i think thats how you spell it lol) here in the UK we have Too many national holidays, we spend more time on holiday than what we do at sodding work!! Besides Christmas is not the same anymore. also think about this...

at xmas we bring trees into our homes (xmas tree), if we did that at anyother time of year people would think were nutts and put us in a mental home! :D

Oh and by the way a little info or you...in Sweden they celabrate xmas day on the 24TH! Not 25th (confirmed by my good friend in sweden)

In Germany kids get their presents on the 24th, most people have real trees and many use candles instead of electric lights, those are about the only major differences.

In Spain kids traditionally get their presents on January 6th, Epiphany.
