my job isnt so much keeping people in as it is making sure they are happy. I try to make sure they are aware of all that they and their families are entitled to, make sure that if they have problems that can be fixed i do what i can.knightmare wrote:So you try to keep them in?? Which skill level for the 96B? requires top secret & SCI clearance*
Me, I am currently the president of a local union in my city.

Just got thru watching it. What a piece of crap..A dishonor to those in uniform.
But it might influence someone to join.. I can see it appealing to the 17-21 yr old crowd. Showed some tough stuff, but appealed to the macho desires of young men.

those guys were portrayed as a bunch of screw ups, masturbating, homo-acting group of immature kids. I imagine 99% of marines are more mature.

Why do you imagine that? A huge number of recruits are still teenagers - they're not going to stop being teenagers because they're soldiers. Personally, I didn't think the film dishonoured the military. I don't know true to real life the film was, but it didn't seem that far off the behaviour I would have expected from kids so young (military or not). Was an entertaining watch for me - though I can understand why some of the more patriotic viewers could have a beef with it.knightmare wrote:those guys were portrayed as a bunch of screw ups, masturbating, homo-acting group of immature kids. Ok guys, i watched the movie last night. The movie is dead on how it was over there, exactly. There were only two scenes I had a beef with. One was the scene where the guys wife sent a movie with her banging her neighbor. That did happen over there but I don't think it was a marine unit iirc. And the guy shot himself a few days later. The other beef I had was when they were all firing into the air. No way in hell anybody would allow that to happen. Other than that the movie really brought back a lot of memories for me.

And that's why they put the Marines under the Department of Navy and left the above parts to the sailors.bigmo66 wrote: Contrary to what some folks in Hollywood would have you believe, not every Marine is a pud-whacking, foul-mouthed, hard drinking, womanizing animal.

The movie demoralized the true definition of what it is to be an American Soldier...bigmo66 wrote: Contrary to what some folks in Hollywood would have you believe, not every Marine is a pud-whacking, foul-mouthed, hard drinking, womanizing animal.

And aren't you the same knightmare that posted here threatening to beat someone down over the internet ages ago (you're a blackbelt in some martial arts, right?)

If not then nevermind.

Internet arguments over movies rawk.

I was probably the most responsible and respectful person in my squadron. I couldn't even begin to describe some of the insane, degrading, and self destructive behavior I saw in the 4 years I was in. This was not isolated to my unit, it is the norm for the Army. Now if you want to talk about techies in the air force, or some comm guy on a navy ship I wouldn't know about that. I'm talking d*cks in the dirt combat troops, not REMF's.
It's some of the same chit that goes on in frat houses across the country. What else would you expect getting large groups of 18-22 year old guys together fresh out of mommy's control, with large amounts of alcohol, drugs, and women involved.
You keep that lily white picture of washington crossing the delaware in your head though.

Steve everyone on the internet is a black belt, a GS-15 step 7, a MI-5, a ex-royal guard to the queen, a mind-controlled govt agent., a englishman with a french GF, etc.. a David Icke bodyguard, the list goes on.
I'm sure in my playing around, it takes away my credibility. Not that anyone was going to listen anyway. Most people are dead set in their values, viewpoints, stances on issues.
Honestly, yes I do have a Blackbelt- Shoto-kahn karate. My instructor was Charles Scott, Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. Doesn't matter, I was 13 years old when i got it, took me 3 years. I'm not a current practioner of it.
Also I must admit what a great dishonor it was to brag about it. A true master, never reveals that he is a master. It is a continous learning experience.

Airborne Ranger, 3 tours of duty in Nam`. Ranger Instructor in the Army.
I know him, and people that have trained under him.
My only summary is those jarheads had it easy. I know I wasn't actually in the marines or army... I know, I was raised up in it. So unless you were raised by my Dad you have a "lily white perception" of me.
lily white picture, ha

saw this movie last nite ....
I thought it was pretty good ... I have no idea of what life is like for soldiers over in the desert - no first hand knowledge of course, but I do watch a good bit of the documentaries on t.v. about it.
So I went in w/ no preconceived notions, and I thought it was pretty good.
I do agree that I don't think they would be able to unload all their weapons into the air though ... that was kinda
