Actually with Linux being used by more people it is under attack more as a result. This is mostly unhardened rigs though. The two least hacked OS's are Mac and SCO, (who recently bought Unix from AT&T). SCO also owns Caldera now too.

OS X runs on top of Darwin which is unix based. If the Aqua GUI is using XFree86 it could be ported to run on any *nix box if you could obtain its source. Here's another XP link: http://www.ntsecurity.net/Articles/Inde ... leID=38715
This is bumming me out because I do use XP too,

No, I shouldn't have to do that. If it doesn't support it to begin with, then it's not worth my time.

Pretty much the same, but there are differences.

Unix is used mainly in Large Mainframes and stuff like that. Linux is more for the small server/workstation.
Respect it.

Linux is based on Minix Unix. Linus submitted suggestions to its author, who rejected them. In turn Linus created the Linux kernel and teamed up with GNU (Gnu is Not Unix). The rest is history. If you want an affordable true Unix type OS try Slackware or one of the BSDs. Thats as close as it gets. Most of the commands are the same either way. GNU is working on another kernel called MACH. So far it's ported for Debian last I heard. If Linux could get some serious support from the gameing industry, you'd be surprised how fast they run on it. For now most of them have to be ported by hand, and cost a little more. Similar to MAC. Otherwise they use an emulator which degrades performance. :D

Havn't used 9 yet, still on 8 myself. What are the bonuses?

Newer Kernel

Gnome 2.2 and KDE3.1 X-clients

Better driver support.

It's not really totally different than 8 was and you could probably update 8 by downloading the different packages and stuff, it's just easier to install.

Not a good idea. They went bankrupt, and the set of packages you get are largely usless. :p
