firewall question

Post by Vic Mackey »

hello. when i play online games i shut down antivirus but leave firewall up cause i have cable. since I only have 256mb RDRAM i also shut down explorer.exe to free up some more ram. now if i shut that down will my firewall still protect me? it is still running in the processes menu but does closing explorer.exe stop it from working? :D

I wouldn't shut any of those things down Vic, when playing games you might be port scanned or someone might try and plant a trojan.

It shouldn't slow you down noticeably, there are so many ways to get virii these days you really need to leave it enables full time.

Uh..... If you shutdown Explorer.EXE , doesn't your computer shutdown??? Hmmmmm....

You should allow your game to go thru your firewall, however, you must be aware of the Ol' saying:
'the more holes you put in your "dam" the more "water" gets thru!' :(

no i have windows XP. i doesnt shut down windows. i thought it would too but i read someone that does that to free some more ram. then to start programs they ctrl-alt-del, click new task, then browse to the .exe file of the program they want to start. for me i browse to eye.exe to start ASE.
