Sound Blaster Live! sucks - sound off here

OK... I have had this used SBLive! 5.1 card for about a month now and when it works, it is awesome. But, man it really sucks !!!

Just today I was having some BSOD issues and now I have no sound. I look in hardware and there is nothing for sound. WTF ?!?! I uninstall the Creative software and restart. When I got to reinstall the software it says there is no SB card in the computer. BULL S*** !!! Why does this card suck so much ?

I would like to hear the other horror stories of these SB cards from you guys. I hear a lot of you guys knocking and now I see why. Man, I should not have bought these things.

I don't hate Soundblaster but i dont really like them either. They are dying out.

Using SB live MP3+ work nicely, good sound, but the microphone jack is screwed up...ah well i could of care less about it

I have 2 sblive cards and both work great, you might just have a bummed card...did you buy from someone online? They might have had it in a machine where they were o/c'ing the pci bus too much and it might have gotten screwed that way.

I've never had any problems them at all, even with the VIA chipsets which was a surprise.

I dunno...have two of them....have used both for quite some time in a couple of rigs...through several various rebuilds and hardware configurations and operating systems.

Love them to death! Old faithful!

The only problem I can ever thing of that surfaced..was with BF1942...and that was an official problem on their end with SB drivers, and they quickly came out with a fix for it.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes... I am having some bad luck on my system. However, I just took out the FireConnect 4300 and have not had a system crash yet ! *knocks on wood*

We'll see how that goes.

As for the SBLive!, I thought everyone was dissing them. Hmm... must've been the others (Audigy?). It probably isn't the card... it's probably my crap computer. LOL

different people have different experiences. mine were not so great with the SB Live! cards. they would work great on one config/system, and throw fits on another. they have bloated included software (which i never installed after awhile), and they are a real pain in the butt to completely remove from a computer (on the software level. removing the card itself is obviously easy). what's left on a given OS (or at least windows) will monkey with whatever else you try and replace it with.

and to answer the question aboyut where he got them.... he bought them from me ($35 shipped for both). they were in OCd system, but only mildly OCs. since i don't invest a lot in gnarly cooling, i never tried to overclock the snot out of the systems (never saw anything over 39MHz).

hope you identified what other component was conflicting with the SB card, mountainman. ideally it should be as simple as that. BTW, did the other card work OK for you?

You know... I think it has to do with taking other cards out and putting. My thoughts are that this computer is so screwed up and I keep getting the IRQL BSOD that there was an IRQ problem. Once I removed the FireWire, it has worked good since *knock on wood again*. We'll see how it goes from here.

(However I dont have FireWire anymore.

The Value card worked good too which is what's going in here after I build the new system.

I have a Sound Blaster audigy 1 card, and it rawks
I have had no problems and it runs all my sound applications like clockwork

i use the 5 1/2 inch bay to record the input form my mixing desk, and use the digital cables to and from my mini disk player.

I have never experecned issues with the card. and I run it with the most uptodate drivers and it is on a windows 2k o/s machin.

Roll on the creative sound blaster, soooooo gooood I might just get a audigy 2 ...... sweeeett ass pie

Hate to be the only bearer of bad news but, my 5.1 live card will lock my pc up when I turn on the music in Diablo>Bnet.

Dam. I've had several SBLive 5.1 cards with no problems what-so-ever. Last card i had I sold to Jstyr, Ask him how he likes it.

Yea, the 5.1 platinum I got from LT is work'in like a dream. No BSOD or any error messages whatsoever. Can't say how pleased I am with this card..even works great with my mic and headset.
