Duplicate Programs Running

look there, u can see multiple outlooks running, and the application isn't even open, i opened outlook like 2 hrs ago... Why does it do this?

have you tried a virus scan on the computer?

if not try one.

I know that when i run outlook express mine automatically looks every 10 minutes for new updates, and mine displays 2 tasks in the task manager only when it does that, but when it is just running in the background it just displays one of them..

i dunno if that helps but it is worth a try, alternativly, u can maybe try removing Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 5 from the add remove items menu, and they try reinstalling it from the windows Xp CD then try updating it to internet explorer 6.1 from the windows update website.

Definitely weird, Ben, but you sure do have a lot of other stuff running in the background besides Outlook Express...

Outlook Express runs as msinm.exe....not Outlook.exe. Outlook.exe is the real Outlook..as found in MSOffice products.

AA...which version of Outlook are you running? Have you service packed that version of Office...and done the other updates for Outlook? Head on over to http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx

and run a scan...get the updates. You need your Office cd inserted to run most of them. Older versions of Outlook sometimes had a hard time shutting down the mapispooler service after closing the program.

What dont have much running. Most of the stuff id ont kwno what they are...

I didn't even catch that. Like YOSc said, outlook.exe is the full Office version. It might be launching at startup or something. I can see a few more I think you oughta get rid of loading:

mstordb.exe (Office clip organizer)
ctfmon.exe (Office alternative text input)
realsched.exe (RealPlayer)
cthelper.exe (Creative software)
htpatch.exe (SiS driver thing, I read disabling it doesn't cause problems)

You need to disable it in the program itself, then. Under Preferences > Start Center I think.

The Office stuff you'll have to uninstall via the Office setup

Most things that come back after removing them from msconfig is b/c they need to be disabled inside the program itself or there is a process running in conjunction with one of the services you have enabled.
For hard to find entries, try checking in the registry under HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN

OR/then run services.msc and turn off some of the unnecessary services and set them to manual rather than automatic..

that should help clear up some of the startup madness beyond what msconfig can do.. BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE YOU MODIFY IT.. Good luck!
