What type of fiber optic cable do I have to buy for a network that will internconnect a couple of buildings? I need a low cost solution, can any of you give me a hint?
I don't know much about fiber optics...
Thanks.

why are you messing with fiber, it doesnt move data any faster then plain old wire, it does however have the ability to carry more data at any given time. example:
if you have a 1 inch diameter pipe at 1 psi it will move x amount of water. a pipe of 10 inches diameter at 1 psi will move more water in a given amount of time but will still only be at 1 psi. so you are able to move more data over fiber but it does not move faster. i hope this makes sense.

Fibre optic is like 6 bucks per foot. It's the connectors and the manpower involved terminating it that's costly.
You would want to install multimode fibre, account for 80% growth in your network. Get an electrical contractor to install some PVC conduit between your buildings, I would recomend at least two 2" conduits, that way you can utilize the conduits for pulling extra runs later. Then get the fibre techs to come in and do they're work.

Media convertor or what else?
To be able to interconnect a couple of buildings with fiber optic cable, what will I have to use so that on the top of each building the signal from the fiber to go into an ethernet 100mb switch that will connect the workstations in that building?
I was thinking I will have to use a media convertor with 1 input for fiber optic cable and 2 outputs: 1 UTP 100TX output and another output for the fiber cable that will go to the other building.
Is that corect, or can I use something else.
The point is that in each building there are computers that will hava to be connected to the fiber optic backbone.
Any suggestions?
