Linksys BEFSR41 v2 Question

I'm on Adelphia in Scranton, PA. Originally had a Sohoware router, but it died on me and I replaced it with a Linksys BEFSR41 version 2.

Everything went well with the setup. I also upgraded the firmware to 1.44.2. My problem is that... every morning, I can't surf the internet. When I go into the Linksys setup page/status page, everything looks OK, except that my WAN IP address is at 0.0.0.0. I have to reboot the router to obtain the WAN IP address again (which is always the same IP address). Why is the router losing the cable modem IP address?

I'm running Win98 and my modem is a Surfboard.

Some cable setups authenticate on MAC...first thing I would try is to power off your cable modem for at least a half hour...then power it up again...with the router on. The cable modem should "forget" the old MAC of your old router, and "learn" the new one of the Linky.

Also you may try "spoofing" the MAC of the old router in the new Linky, or on the old router, did you "spoof" the MAC of the NIC on your computer when you originally set it up?

On the first page of your Linksys router web admin, the setup section, you'll see a section down on the bottom "Keep Alive"...is that checked?

The "Keep Connection Alive" is only available in the Linksys Router Setup "WAN Connection Type" when you use "PPPoE" or "PPTP" but not by "Static IP" or "Obtain an IP automatically" which would be DHCP.

Thanks, Stonecat. I saw in my modem's setup page that it still was listing my old router's MAC address. I rebooted the cable modem and it is now picking up the Linky's MAC address. All is well now.

True true Dave....my mind really only has DSL setups memorized...as that's 99 and 44/100 % of the setups I do. Good pickup.
