Sounds like a pure biatch

Well guessing by what u have typed u are on windows XP if you get that auto pop up.

What might be a good idea is to try swapping the IDE cables or SCSI cables depending upon what type u have, and see if that works.

I also presume that the CD drive is being detected in the BIOS and DOS?

I presume that the CD rom is being detected in Windows?

Can u play normal media such as Audio and Data CD's?

How long have u had the drive ?

If it is kinda new it just might be a faulty drive, works one minute fcuks upo the rest of the time. I had a hard disk like that, and It had to go back.... and that majorly sucked (that is enough about that)

Try the above and answer those wee Questions and I will check up on a few other things.

Cheers Tigger

You might also have a ad cd-r. Have you tried other discs? They can show as full when they are bad.

Are you sure your drive supports CDR? I have seen a drive that was RW only....Acer, I think

Ok judging buy what u replyed with it may just be a duff CD RW.

As as said before it can happen, further possibilities before u rush out and beat sumone up over it not working,

---Try swapping the IDE channels
---Try the CD -RW in a different machine (if that option is avalible)

Try those options and if not it may be a duff drive, it should read the disks if not i would take it back before ur warrenty on the drive runs out.. that is usually one year

hope u get a resolution asap

I had the same problem with my old NEC CDRW, all you can do is eject and insert cds but when you try to read it, it doesn't recognize cd inside. Basically the drive is history its burnt out, once of the couses of this problem is a cheapy power supply.

well u have 2 channels primary master and slave, and secondary master and slave.

U allways put ur hard disk on the primary master and then u add ur other devices to the other ide channels . Say for example u have 2 cd roms on the secondary ide cable , well u just swap the cd rw across to the primary slave channel and wolllllla it should work, unless u have a nakard cd rom drive..... hehe

hope that helps

IDE 2(Secondary IDE Controller will have the same effect. Set your CD-Rom as Slave and CD-RW as Master on IDE 2. No need to sweat it. :)
