How effective is birth control?
How effective is birth control?
My gf is currently on Alesse-28 and says it's over 99% effective. So far, so good...but I have to say, those numbers don't inspire full confidence. It seems like common sense to throw another precaution into the mix, any suggestions?

That's the average for pills.
Main thing...(and it's good for you to help in this responsibility...since this is for both of you).....is to make sure they are taken on schedule. Help with a little reminder daily "Did you take you pill?"
Start forgetting, missing a couple of days, taking way off schedule...and watch that 99.something % effectiveness start to decline rapidly.
The injections are good for peeps who have a hard time remembering.

my wife uses the patch.. looks just like the nicotine patch.. works like a champ. No side effects for my wife.. The pill gave her nasty mood swings and sunspots if she tried tanning in the sun.. Patch fixed all that.

Didn't mean that to come across in a rude/harsh manner Brent....I've seen you poke fun at it, and I was intending a well natured chuckle at it...I apologize if it came across wrong.

Now if only all software companies could say that and not lie...

I'm not exactly an expert on this issue, 25 and experience with just one girl... anyway, if you REALLY want to be safe use both the pill/patch and a condom. I know too many folks who used just one and ended up with a kid.
Cheers,

The only thing that is 100% effective is a vasectomy. Good luck with that.

I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.
