There was a video crew taping the concert in there too. The whole thing was ridiculous. They had these fireworks that were like those fountains. The ones that spray flaming stuff all over. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that nothing good can come from having flaming stuff shooting out in a confined space, idiots. Sad that those people had to die like this.
Respect it.

and from what I heard, the video crew was there to do a follow up to the Chicago club incident a few weeks ago. sort of ironic.

I also never knew there were that many fans of Great White?

How sad. Pointless and sad.

and of course whoever is at fault is lying like a sonofabitch to get out of the blame:

The pyrotechnics were used without permission from the club, said Kathleen Hagerty, a lawyer representing club owners Michael and Jeffrey Derderian.

"No permission was ever requested by the band or its agents to use pyrotechnics at The Station, and no permission was ever given," she said.

The band's singer, Jack Russell, said the manager checked with the club before the show and the use of pyrotechnics was approved. And Paul Woolnough, president of Great White's management company, said tour manager Dan Biechele "always checks" with club officials before pyrotechnics are used.

"I'm not going to reply to those allegations, but I do know that the club would have been informed, as they always are," Woolnough said. Biechele could not immediately be located for comment.

The owner of a well-known New Jersey nightclub said Great White failed to tell him they were using pyrotechnics for a concert there a week ago.

"Our stage manager didn't even know it until it was done," said Domenic Santana, owner of the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. "My sound man freaked out because of the heat and everything, and they jeopardized the health and the safety of our patrons."

Oh crap! Reminds me of the HappyLand disaster in New York :(

Rear doors were chained locked and the front entrance was blocked by the fire. Over 80 people lost their lives. Such a tragedy.

CNN is reporting he is dead.

I just saw an interview on cnn with one of the managers from stone pony, and he was saying how great white really did not care at all, even though once they started the pyrotechnics and said it is no big deal.

Sounds to me like Great white is going to be having some major lawsuits coming.

Let's not rush to judgement ...

from abc.com:
The Rhode Island show was part of a nationwide tour. Officials at other clubs said Great White asked before using pyrotechnics and complied when they were turned down. One of those venues was the Oxygen Nightclub in Evansville, Ind., where the band played Feb. 3. The club has ceilings 20 feet tall "but we still did not want to take the chance," club owner JJ Parson said. "We said we'd prefer they not, and they went along. Everything we asked them to do, they'd do."

I think there is going to be plenty enough blame on this one to go around ......

I know the people from stone pony...I highly doubt they have any reason to lie...

not saying the other club isnt right but something is up with those pyrotechnics where I bet they forgot to ask club owners, and then just said lets go ahead and do it anyway

Yup...it makes me sick.

The fire was sooo small at first...and everybody just stood there.

People died right at the front door.
