Got a letter from Comcast..Going up $3 a month BUT!!
they say they are raising the upstream to 256K. BTW Mine has run flawless for the last few weeks up until tonight....I figure they are trying to find the extra bandwidth being as they are SLAMMED now..That I know..They get their internet from a company I used to work for..
what was your old upload speed.
so what are your speeds now?
my isp just jumped up the downstream from 800 to 1mbit but they left the upstream at 200k(about 23kb)
, they arent stupid, they know whats gunna happen if they raise the upstream. lol.
our speed increase was free, aaawww wasnt that nice of them.
they had to do something, no one wants to pay what they want for their crappy cable.

My upload.....
is still 128K and down can be from 300+K to 1.6 MB
the funny thing about isp's john is that you would totally wet your pants at the total amount of bandwidth they actually have , i understand they have to allocate so much for each person and then leave some for new customers. but your and my speeds too are like dropping a pin into a 5 gallon bucket. raising the speeds from 800 to 1mbit(in my case) is almost a slap in the face for us as customers, yeah its cool they raised it. but, ive spoken with the supervisor in charge of internet access here at my local office(the only one in my town lol) very nice lady, but she made the mistake of bragging to me about "how big of a pipeline at&t has given them" the servicemen ive spoken too say the same thing. in an astonishing voice, as in they themselves cant believe the amount of bandwidth that is just sitting idle.
i pay $60 usd for 1mbit/200k cable (about 130kb/23kb) they are the only broadband company in my town that offers anything even close to being affordable for the average citizen.
now the funny thing is, pretty much all the outlieing small towns all offer dsl. but the main city where im at, not large but large enough, also houses a main Qwest node, and do you think qwest could offer dsl?? no they been saying "its coming" for over 5 years now with absolutely no sign of it actually happening.

Tell me about it...
I have worked in the internet(ISP) industry since it started. A couple years ago I jumped to Adelphia and that lasted about 18 months. But the money was nice while it lasted..
Comcast buys their bandwidth from Adelphia.. I know they are in trouble....
There is a lot of smoke and mirrors...
i often wondered why cable companies who have direct satelite links, dont use their satellite access for bandwidth i mean, last guy i talked to, used to play Rogue spear with him every night, worked for a backbone company down in arizona i believe, he had 200mbit/sec satellite uplinks, man imagine tapping into one of those lines mmuuhahahah lol
i imagine the cost is ungodly, but the benefits to the customers, and the amount of customers that could be lured into their service.
we have T1 offered by this same cable company home or business, and they want 125$/month. and its only 1500/400 plus data priority and web space.. i mean my god.. that is just ridiculous, they have a monopoly on broadband here and it sickens me that they charge whatever they want.
