Resource Thread: HP Pavllion 7840 and the ATI 7000 64mb

Post by terrancelam »

Well today is the day that I name HP a POS residential/homeuse company. I've never had so much trouble trying to find a bios for the damn thing and then even more trouble trying to get the Excalibur ATI Radeon 7000 64mb SDR to work in. Came to the conclusion that:

A.) None of the HP bios revisions support 64mb video memory size.

B.) The stock power supply isn't powerful enough to support anything that powerful anyways.

C.) HP website need some serious work done on it. I could not for the life of me get the bios off their website. It took like 4 minutes just to get the search going and this was on a T1 line! I had to download a bios from a yahoo group which was hosting the 3.x version of the bios. Even that didn't help.

The way I got around this problem, stuck in a ATI Radeon 32mb DDR and it booted up and ran like a charm. So end of story.

Don't buy a 64mb videocard for this system. Also PCI suxor.
