Is It DOA?

Ok heres the deal..My kids puter has been chugging along for a few years never any problems. Suddenlt yesterday they said they smelled something burning so they shut it down. I checked it out and found out it would not turn back on at all...upon hitting the power button the fans spin briefly then shuts back off. I removed the ps and tried a different one...same thing....I tried different known good memmory...nothing....I tried a different video caRD...nothing.....I dont have another cpu to try but thats about the only thing left or the motherboard....am I missing something? cpu looks fine and does not smell burnt....its a 1.2 athlon tbird in a ecs k7vma motherboard....this puters been rock solid .....anyone have any other ideas???

take off the side, put it in some light and take a good look around.. take out what burnt.. my thought is something like a modem or harddisk.

This machine has no modem, I took out the nic, the video card and disconnected the cd roms and hard drives...still no change...power comes on briefly then right back off

Looks like a dead mobo, I would try testing the CPU on another mobo see if it works. If it does then most probably its the mobo.

could be cpu heatsink/fan...

although by now the cpu prob burned out too.

try turning on again and see if hsf spins?

yep hs fan does spin briefly...thats the first thing I thought too...unfortunately I dont have another board to test the cpu in

I would get a new board to test it in if I were you, anyways you gotta change the whole damn thing
