Cable modem keeps disconnecting (help)

Post by MytMowse »

Hey guys, I was hoping maybe you guys would know whats up.

I'm not gunna call my isp yet cuz they don't ever know whats going on. So if I could get some info maybe I could fix it myself if its possible, which I doubt.

Anyway...About three week's ago I got the new modem that attbi sent out, it is a Motorola 2b4220 SURFboard Cable Modem. It is a usb and ethernet modem, I DO NOT USE THE USB FEATURE.

The first problem I had with this cable modem is once the cable line touched the cable input it blew up my whole cable. I had to get the transformer in the box fixed. Then it worked fine. Then about two days later, my whole connection just died. I restarted my computer, still didn't connect. So I unplugged it (the power) and plugged it back in. It started working again. The lights even when it wasn't connected to the net were all blinking btw. Then a few minutes later, it did it again, and again. Then it did it ever 3 days. Once it was a whole week. Now it seems to be every few hours to 15 minutes. It's the most annoying thing.

I was wondering if anyone knew what was up?

Hope I was clear enough, ask me if it isn't.

You need to call your ISP out to test the cable

The cable modems are extremely sensitive and if the signal is not strong enough, you will lose your connection. That is what happened to me but the dam tech that hooked me up in the first place did not do the job right. They had to send out another tech to re-run the cable and tried to charge me for the job. I fought it though.

Get a DATA service tech out there! He can determine if it's in the lines. Could be a maintenance problem too.

I , unfortunately see quite a few dud Surfboards :(

I have the same exact problem and I think i asked everywhere I can including SpeedGuide about 4 times and tried each advice they gave but none worked. More then likely it is a line problem. There might be a split at the end of your line and it will cause it to go out of sync. You should call up tech support and have them run signal tests from the office and check for line problems
