comp starts by itself??????

since me and my bro put up our network his comp starts by itself when i turn the power on at the main switch which turns on all the comp and stuff. i thought it was wake on lan but i disabled it on mine and his and it still does it??

try unplugging your ethernet lines and then power up your switch and see if they still come on.

wol is the only thing i can figure would cause what your talking about.

Maybe its a loose connection with the casing power switch connectors? My PC kept restarting itself once...checked the casing and found the reset connection loose

yes,, go into advanced properties for the NIC and disable anything that says "wake-on",,,,,,,,,

Check your mobo BIOS for a "State after a power failure" setting. IF it is set to "Auto" or "On" that could be your problem. Set it to "Off". When I was using ICS I spent days trying to get wake on LAN to power up my client PC. I eventually got a router and then gave up. Shortly after that my PC started to power up on it's own. After disabling wake on LAN in the BIOS and in the network properties for the NIC all returned to normal.

the comp that turns on by itself. in bios it has wakeon amr and wakeon umm i forgot, somethin wit 3 letters. could that be it

yes,try disabling those,,

did you look in properties for the nic ? like I suggested?

it has nothing to do with the nic

in the bios you will have an option under Power Management or some advanced setting of the like, it will be called something like "System after AC Back" or something similiar, the options are usulally like On, Off and Last State

right now your is set to On

if you set it to off that means the pc will be off when you shut it off and you have to press teh power button to turn it on

if you set it to last state

then whatever state the pc was in in how it was shutdown deteremines how it turns back on

if you set it to on it bypasses the power button for on and just turns the pc on whenever it has power

yes it can,on my Linksys NIC ,there are 3 different options for wake-on,that will do that in a small network,atleast in mine it does,if I enable wake-on in the nic properties then go to my main box and click on the icon for that box it will turn it on.
it also has "magic packets wake-on".that when my main win2k box checks the network it will turn the other one on too.
