Video Card Budget Poll

Post by Brent »

I am interested in seeing what kind of budget you have if you were to buy a new video card.

In other words how much could you and or would you spend on a brand new video card if you were going to buy one.

Don't post WHAT you would buy

Just post your Vid Card Budget or price range that you are able or willing to spend on a video card in USD.

I will give 2 examples

example 1.

I would spend $399 on a new video card

example 2.

I would buy a new video card anywhere from $150-$200

I am conducting this poll just to get an idea out there from real people how much money ya'll would actually put down for a new video card.

see, here's the thing about that...... eating Ramen due to excessive computer expendatures is cool...... BUT, it gets old after awhile. try eating only Ramen for 5 days. since they have no fiber (hence, no substance), you will basically end up peeing out your butt, and that;s no fun. and all this for what? temporary nirvana? no thanks... been there, done that.

i use what i call the 55/85 rule. spend 55% of what the leading-edge solution costs and typically reap 85% of what it offers. this is for videocards only (IMO). since they have a lifespan of maybe 90 days before the newest replacement comes out. the life cycle of other things can be much longer, and so i adjust my budget accordingly. blowing $300+ on a SCSI controller? i think i would green-light that, because i know it will still close to being a contender in another year (well, typically).

anyways, in order to answer the darned question (i do droll on sometimes. sorry about that), i would say $200 to $250 would be my typical budget on a vidcard. unless i suddenly have an unexpected wad of cash fall in my lap.... then all bets are off.

And what'z wrong with Ramen Noodle'z??? I used to live on cases of that stuff. Throw some chicken or chinese roast pork slices in there with some vegetable'z and you have a decent meal.

But anyway, to afford a decent meal these days, I'd have to say that spending no more than $200USD would suffice me on a vid card --- 'Cause I Still would Frag the Hell Out of them fool'z at the Monthly Tournament we have here with a GF3. That's the way I am...I'm totally into hardware, and usually go out and get the latest....no matter what it costs. I don't have many other bad habits...quit smoking over a year ago, so I don't have as much probs plopping down 480 buckeroo's when nVidia's FX hits the shelves.

anything over 200 is rediculously over priced for me. I always wait for good cards for around 150 at least...

I'm trying to convince myself that I need a new 9700 pro, but the thought of spending more than 300 on a card sorta turns my bowels (to much ramen???) so I guess that means I'm a 250-300 guy.

$200 would be a limit I would like to stay under. I think anything over that is just like buying the lastest/greatest processor. Wait just a little bit, the price drops, and I buy it. I just see no reason to spend money on a new piece of hardware that is way over-priced just because it's new.

it actually depends on what kind of money i have in my account. if i was to put it on my main i'd spend between $120 to 200 depending on my money status and the good deal i get. On my back up id spend no more than $70 on a videocard, but i do have GF4 ti4200s in my systems. Guess i got lucky last year :D

Yeah it is pretty flat up here, I like it I live by lake Okoboji so its awsome here come summer time. All the tourist. I have a Ton of family in Des Moines that have a big heating and cooling company. Gets really hilly after you go down past that area

I just bought 4x Radeon 8500LE 128MB for two comp builds and 2 comp upgrades

I spend, even for myself, and I consider myself to be an avid gamer, between $80-$100 USD.

I am currently running an Apollo Gf2 GTS 64MB and am quite satisfied. I play WC3 and CS. I havn't found other games to be as exciting. Althought CS graphics are lacking, you can't beat the quality teamplay that CS has, even on a simple pub, and newer games don't.

$50-$100 not to expensive because i don't play games much, i only play Counter-strike once in a blue moon

if i wanted to spend most of my time playing games i'd spend around $150 - 200 for a new video card

If I see real results from people that own a card, I'll pay up to $350 or so. With cards getting in the $400+ range I don't think I'll be upgrading my card next year like I usually do.

Usually around Christmas I get a new video card each year, but with them getting that high, it's too hard for me to ask for one as a present. This year Mrs.RE bought a Radeon 9700 Pro for me, and I felt like I was pushing it a bit asking for that. I don't really like asking for such expensive gifts. And I get the feeling many others won't be getting one for a gift either, at the higher price range.
