IS THIS A GOOD DSL SPEED. I USED SOME TWEAKS FROM THIS SITE.

ok here is what i have after the tweaks and speed tests. I use verizon as my isp. they state max speed of 768/128 for my setup and here is what i have. these are the speed tests b4 and after the settings change.

Any idea why I am still slow? I also have a dedicated CAT 5-e line directly to the box outside, and my speed doesnt change by using the house wiring or the dedicated line.

OK something you need to understand..... the proper TCP/IP & AFD settings are on a connection basis, the ones you posted there are not very good for your connection. Please answer all 6 questions at the top of my Help & Tips link if you would like assistance with your problem.

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot, anything checked in red is spyware and safe to remove.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.

im not arguing with you here, im just saying the settings in which you just gave me caused my connection speed to come to a crawl. when i reloaded the prior settings the speed came back. i dont know why, it just did. do you have any idea why?

I apologize for jumping on you like that, but it's not the settings I gave you, they are perfect for your connection, there may be some room for adjusting but you have a serious problem with your connection if your only getting a little above half of your caps. It's time to troubleshoot, did you do everything I posted? What did you set your NIC duplex mode to? Put the settings I gave you back in and set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex and post a TCP/IP Analyzer Test, a Traceroute and a speed test from the OOL FTP test in my Help & Tips link. Also how far are you from the CO?

well i put them back , ran your tests and came up with an average down speed of 246. I called verizon and they said i should be getting around 5-600 hundred avearage. they are gonna send a tech out to "adjust" the line? what ever.

verizon called today and said the line is supporting speed up to the cap, at my box outside the house. so now where do we go, why will my comp not accept changes or speed up? verizon suggested that i unplug the modem from the surge protector as the protector causes a "lost gasp" , what the hell is this? anyone ever heard of this? they said this may be causing the problem.

Try bypassing it and see, did you scan with SpyBot not Ad Aware? Please post a current TCP/IP Analyzer test and speed test. What is your NIC duplex mode set to? What firewall are you using?

also verizon said i should use dhcp instead of ppoe, what the hell is this? aslo they said that if i only half one nic card than i should use 100 full speed , but if i have 2 cards i should use 100 1/2 speed. they also suggested i reinstall windows, but this seems extreme, because i had a cable modem b4 and it hauled ass. is there any way to reset all network/ tcp/ip settings to factory and try that?

ok here are the results. i removed kazaa from my computer and plugged the modem directly into the wall and now have an average sped of 373. a little better!

I have asked you many questions above and you have yet to answer..... what's the deal? Do you not want any help with your problem?

I also told you to run SpyBot in an above post and obviously you didn't..... this is what is VERY frustrating...... I'm taking my time racking my brain trying to help you and figure out your problem and you have ignored half of what I've asked you to do, yet you still post wondering why your having a problem.

ok i figured it out, i had my on board lan/ethernet connection set to 1/4 duplex in the bios. i reset it to full duplex and get an average speed of 605 now. thanks anyway.
