EL cable via TW- XP/ IE 6 connects @ 600kb, AOL connects @ 1.7 Mb, MSN Explorer 2.8Mb on the same PC! No easy fix, TW EL techs stumped, prob must be inside IE 6, any takers?

Connects where? Any "connection" value has almost no bearing on speed. The real stat is download/upload rate of a file.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Try reinstalling IE6 to start with... Then start poking around in your regs and make all your values are right

And he means when using the aol/msn browser its runing at highspeeds But using IE6 is testing much lower ;)

What OS any routers and what isp what speed test you using ?

Running XP. Internet Explorer 6 comes pre-installed on XP, there's no way to uninstall it. I'm not sure I want to mess around in the Registry, I wouldn't know what to look for, I may have someone with more expertise do it for me. I use Earthlink cable via Time Warner. No routers. Testing on Bandwidthplace, cable-modem.net, cnet, Broadband reports, PC Pitstop, etc.

A sincere thanks to you!

First remove AOL & MSN Explorer... they are crap and will slow your connection. Once you do that please read the Help & Tips link in my signature and answer the questions so we can help get you properly tweaked. :) :D

Get rid of 2.8 for 600kb? Are you sure uninstalling those other browsers would effect IE 6's speed? I guess I could reinstall them if it doesn't work.

Thanks!

Also, AOL and MSN cache aggresively. It doesn't surprise me your speed measured to them is uber, as you aren't actually traversing the internet to get to 123xyz.com, as they have cached those pages locally on their network.

When other people connect their laptop to my cable modem their IE gets speeds from 1.7Mb to 2.5Mb. That would discount your theory unfortunately. Thanks anyway!

All Fixed! 2.8Mb on bandwidthplace! It was the IP address that Earthink gave me. They give you one for a month then change it. I just tried my IE test speed because I saw a tip that said to place "-no home" in your IE home page set up to speed up IE. I did it and thought 'wow this fixed it' but when I checked the IP address at the bottom of the test page I saw a new number! I had a feeling this was the problem, but no one else agreed. I'm stoked and I didn't have to uninstall MSN or AOL! Thanks to all who helped!!!!!!!
