Combining 2 cable modems?

I seen posts by people saying that they want their speed to increase by combining 2 sources of internet connection.

My case is different though. I want to maintain my speed.

I have 117kb/sec upload speed. Let's say a user connects to my server and starts sending files out, he will get that speed. Once the second user connects and starts sending files out, the 117kb/sec gets split between 2 people and so on.

-Here is my first question.

1. If I combine two cable modems will 2 people get 117kb/sec each?

I have a 3COM (fin shaped)cable modem, that is not produced any more.

2. Can You reffer a good cable modem, that can match the performance of 3Com modem?

No USB ONLY modems though.

3. What software should I use to combine the connections?

4. Since I will have 2 modems on the same line will it affect the speeds greatly?

I mean, there is one line going to my house and if I split it for 2 cable modems etc. how will that affect the speeds?

I know some of You are really smart with these stuff so PLEASE give a quality response and NO FLAMING!!!

There is nothing illegal about it.

Devices such as Nexland Pro800 Turbo support 2x WAN connections.

When one person saps one connection.....the load balancing will toss other traffice to the other connection.

I've seen cable act funnier than DSL though when it comes to multiple IP's and connections...not always as smooth.

Your modem's not the bottleneck there.

I am assuming you are going to bring in another cable connection to do this with, as putting 2 modems on one line will do nothing for you.

Try the Nexland Pro800, as YOSC suggests. It load balances multiple connections, and will work with any 2 sources of ethernet connectivity.

There's no problem with two or more modems on one line provided that there is enough signal strength for all of them.

The issue that has not been mentioned is cost - you will have to have a second account in order to have two modems, at double the cost.

You may wish to consider moving your server to a hosting location, where you can get much better bandwidth and performance.

Lastly, you may wish to note the following provision from your ISP's AUP:

SUBSCRIBER MAY NOT RUN A SERVER IN CONNECTION WITH THE OPTIMUM ONLINE SERVICE (capitals theirs)

I run a server for over 2 years now 24/7, scanning and stuff like that and I never had problems with them.

Probably because I have their cable too.. hehe

First of all the Pro800 Turbo's Static routing feature is broken, they even admit it.

Question 1 was answered....it does not combine, it spills over and utilizes the secondary WAN port when usage of the primary WAN port exceeds it's max. You don't get 243 up for one person, but I suppose the way you word it....if one person connects to one WAN IP...they'll get the max upload. If a second person connects to the other WAN IP...they'll get the max. So yes, you could say each person, because they're connecting to separate WAN connections, will receive the max upload.

There's several peeps here who have the Pro800....all I hear is love and praise from them. I run one at the office....with a 6 meg high speed DSL line in it...flies! Also run servers through it....full blown Exchange, websites, Citrix servers, Outlook Web Access....service department downloads hundreds and hundreds of megs of drivers, windows updates, etc, all day long. Last week I began using it's switch to the max, since one of our 3COM SS switches that was agining began failing. So our accounting department is running their SQL based package through the full duplex switch. I pound the living daylights out of it more than 99% of the other users out there, and it's doing quite well.

As to which modem (bridge) to buy....they're all about the same. I see a lot of the Motorola Surfboards around my area...they're well liked. Heck, even Linksys is selling them.

I have had my nexland pro 800 turbo for about a year. It is the best money I have spent. I run mine through a switch on one modem with two IP's and I can't think of one bad thing about it I don't like. As far as the person that wrote all the bad stuff about the pro800 turbo > I would say he has never had one or seen one. The pro800 turbo is new so if he had got a bad one they would have just replaced it!! He must work for D-link or linksys. LOL I would say he is full of $hit. If your going to lesson to anybody, YeOldeStonecat he know his stuff
