Up until about a week ago..Zone alarm was picking up alerts from Gnutella and Kazaa almost all the time

lately this seems to have shifted and it now seems to be almost continually netbios alerts?

can anyone explain, and is anyone getting the same shift in alerts?

In bound or out bound alerts?
If outbound, download and run Ad-Aware from
Lavasoft Free spyware removal tool
For inbound, assuming you use explorer, you might look into upgrade to IE6. It has cookies screening builtin. Set it allow 1st party cookies, block 3rd party cookies, and always allow session cookies. You can also block site specific.

Thanks technoid

the alerts are always inbound

I have ad aware and I would also advise people to upgrade the definitions..I was using a file from june run it and got 6 files eg: doubleclick, fastclick etc....then upgraded my definitions to a september file run ad aware again and picked up 62 files!!

I already have IE6 and have it set as suggested

it just seems a swing in the type of alerts for no apparent reason, I have not altered any Zone alarm settings over the last few week

Just wondered if anyone else running ZA can confirm similar?

As far as Gnutella and Kazaa, sounds like maybe some ports are showing. Set ZA firewall internet security to high to stealth all ports. Maybe visit Gibson Research and run Shields Up! and Leaktest to test your firewall settings.
For Netbios, check your network settings, and Uncheck enable netbios over tcp/ip in the Netbios tab of your tcp/ip properties for all adapters.
Personally, I rarely take a hit, inbound or outbound.
