Broadband speed problems using Kazaa
I wonder has anybody come across this before. My cable modem speed has been much reduced since I installed Kazaa Lite. I've been checking my download/upload speeds when not connected to Kazaa and can't understand whats happened. Prior to install I was getting about 550 kbps on a 600 service. Now it's down to 300-400 kbps. It has to be something to do with Kazaa as I have absolutely nothing running on my system in the background.

Jah... But if you're gonna file share anyway....
1) limit the # of users you allow to connect to (and upload from) you simultaneously and...
2) don't allow the prog. to start at bootup and turn it off when you don't explicitely want to share
3) check your machine for virii http://housecall.antivirus.com and trojans http://www.pestpatrol.com regularly
4) read this... http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/22119.html

When a problem comes along...You must whip it.....When something's going wrong...You must whip it....Whip it good...

Re: Broadband speed problems using Kazaa
wow, you know that using Kazaa, you prolly have some "bugs" so to speak. but also your more suceptible to attacks because your on a network of sharers, and they are constantly sending requests to all users on the network.. and another thing if you have a firewall, and it is writing logs of in and out traffic since your file sharing your logs are constantly being written, and that causes cpu cycles to rise, and harddrive fragmentation, and overall slow down of a perfectly good running computer(before installing Kazaa) Do you UnderStand now..Originally posted by tglasgow

Thanks guys. This board and its members are a great resource.
How did you look to see what was running in the backround?
You can hide alot from what you see just in the "ctrl-alt-del" Program window.
You might want to try a program like "memload" that can see your running processes.
