Purchasing a printer... looking at 2

Post by smidley »

Hey guys, I'm going to buy a new Color Printer today. I am looking at two of them from HP right now, and I just wanna know if any of you have either of them or if you know how good they are. Also, I just can't decide which one I should get... Money is not an issue. :)

Printer1:
Hewlett Packard PSC950 All-In-One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax with proof sheet printing.
Accepts memory cards. Prints at 2400x1200dpi. 12ppm in black and 10ppm in color.

Printer2:
Hewlett Packard PSC2110 Printer/Scanner/Copier.
Prints up to 4800x1200 optimised dpi using 6ink cartridges. Prints 14ppm in black and 10ppm in color.
She looked at you and she said to your face it's over

Thats a no brainer.. get printer #1
Fax is there if you really need it.
My friend John J has The HP PSC950 although my scanner is better but I don't have a fax on mine..
If you're looking for just scanning go with your second choice..
but if you want options go with our first choice.
Both are decent Printers from what I've saw of them. Money isn't an issue.. buy the better one.
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!

Well I think I might go with option 2 because I have a seperate stand alone fax machine..... I probably should have mentioned that.

The 2000 series are really nice. Look at the printing features....the "All in one" units often just have the bare bones printers under the hood....they're not the best of everything...except some of the higher end ones. It's their most basic model printer, scanner, etc...all bundled up.

HP is the way to go..without a doubt.

neither...

I'd go with the HP940. It's based on the hp1000 with some advances. Plus, you can get it for under a hundred now. Fantastic picture quality for the price. Those all-in-one machines are a waste unless you have a business. Even then, you'll find a better value buying a seperate scanner. Your computer can fax and most scanners have instant copy cap.

if money isn't an issue why not just get the psc2210 which is the model above the psc2110 and it includes the same features as the psc950 (fax & digital memory ports). Its $399 i believe.

well all I'm really looking for is a printer with better print quality. My old printers dpi is rated at 600x300!!!! now I think with 4800x1200 I'm going to see a big difference!

Just dont forget that the dpi often means NOTHING. Often times, it's 'digitally enhanced' to that number.

I cant see myself ever buying anything but a laser in the future. So much cheaper, with such good quality.

If you're interested in doing photos, walmart does a FANTASTIC job for only 26 cents a print. That's much cheaper then it owuld cost you to print them.

Hey True while you are on the subject can you give us a quick run down of laser vs. inkjet as far as quality vs. price vs. cost of replacement cartridges

BTW I have never owned a laser printer so I don't know how it feeds itself.

here it is, plain and simple.

laser- 2 cents per sheet
inkjet - at least 8-15 cents per sheet.

you can buy a samsung laser printer for UNDER 200!!
They look FANTASTIC and they dont fade like inkjets will.

my opinion summed up...

If you want digital photo's printed, walmart will do 4x6's for 26cents a piece. if you want cards printed, a very crisp black and white is JUST as good as a color card.

You wont be sorry... I dont have one yet, I'm just waiting for my inkjet to run out of ink.

laser toner is about 70 a piece... but they last for THOUSANDS of pages. We average about 4000 pages a piece at work.

not bad for 70. Plus, black and color would cost your around 70 anyway.

color laser printers are VERY expensive. However, I feel that the black and white quality is so amazing on a laser that it is much better then any color inkjet you're going to buy.

However often do you really NEED that color, that a PERFECT black and white laser printout wouldnt be enough? The only time I can think of is pictures and I wouldnt use an inkjet for that anyways, since you can buy prints for so cheap now. if you're thinking cards and things like that, wouldnt you rather have a perfect black and white, do you really need color?
