Computer wont shut down properly

Post by TEH WIN »

First off system specs:
Epox 8kha+ motherboard
Athlon xp 1800+ @ 1.53 ghz (not overclocked)
512 ddr generic ram
Western Digital 80 gig 7200 rpm 2mb buffer HDD (primary master) @ ata 100 (3 partitions)
Seagate 60 gig 5400 rpm 2mb buffer HDD (primary slave) @ ata 100 (2 partitions)
antec 350 watt power supply
tnt2 video card
SB live 5.1
windows 2000

I have my hard drives setup like this
C: - windows 98, primary partition of the 80 gig
d: - no os, primary partition of the 60 gig
e: - windows 2000, second partition of the 80 gig
f: - no os, third partition of the 80 gig
g: - no os, second partiton of 60 gig

ok whenever i shut down my comptuer it just instantly RESTARTS... doesnt logoff windows.. doesnt shut down windows... it just instantly RESTARTS. only way to turn off my comptuer is by holding down the button once it restarted. then when i turn it back on, it wants to scandisk all partiotns and normally finds some corrupted files.

when i goto restart my comptuer.. it actually logs off, then shuts down windows and restarts. but even when i do this... when i start loading back up to windows 2000 it says i didnt shut down properly and wants to scandisk all 5 partitions.

i have RMAed this motherboard twice for other reasons and the same thing happened on all 3 boards.

how can i get this damn thing to shut down and restart properly.. not having to always do a scandisk, and actually have it SHUT DOWN.

thanks for your help

Do you have Easy CD Creator 5 Platnium? If so uninstall it then see if it shuts down properly, if so reinstall it witout the Take Two and Direct CD options. There are known conflicts with Win2K and WinXP.

I am having the same problem. When I select SHUT DOWN The computer restarts. This just started happening. I am running Win98SE. This started just after I got some updates for my antivirus. Which is Nortons Corp 7.51.847
