Cable modem problem

I have a Shaw cable connection networked over two computers using a Network Everywhere NH1005 5-Port Hub. Every now and than my internet connection just stops and resetting the modem is the only thing that brings it back. Recently Shaw came and replaced my modem with one they pulled out of a bag

, after three days I didnt get disconencted once than the problem came back. Could this be a hub problem? What do you think?

It might be an IP problem.

Are you allowed 2 IP's ?

What did Shaw say about your 2 PC's using an IP each?

With a hub you're getting a different IP for each machine, where as with a router, you'll only be pulling one IP, and using NAt to share the connection.

Are you using any "sharing" software, like PC Anywhere or Windows ICS?

Each computer has its own ip and im not running any sharing software like ICS.

Dump the hub.
Get a router/drop one IP and be happy.

To legalmind: Based on what you told ze2o, maybe you can help me. I'm assuming my cable ISP allows me two IP addresses, cuz their agreement limits me to 2 computers. I have 3 computers, a D-Link cable modem and a D-Link 4-port router. Will using the router basically allow me to use only one of those IP addresses and basically make me share my allotted bandwidth between my 3 computers? ... If yes, any suggestions on how to optimize my download speeds in this situation when all 3 computers are accessing Internet?

You're going to share the same amount of bandwidth w/ all 3 computers, regardless of whether you use a hub or a router. I think what he was driving at is that your connection will prob. be more stable through the hub; that you *may* have less problems maintaining a stable connection going through router.

Correct and not have to pay for the extra IP.
Plus, clone you main computer NIC Mac to the router.
Cox cable in Phoenix does not read NIC mac, only the modem Mac.
Other cable companies may.
Sorry, do not come by much, no time. Just closed a major apartment complex deal and it is killing me.
