Radeon 9700 vs. GeForce4 Ti4600
Radeon 9700 vs. GeForce4 Ti4600
Which has the better specs? I'll be in the market for a new video card in about a month or so when I get a bonus check from work, and I'm leaning towards the Ti4600...I know ATI has a history of shaky drivers, but have they gotten better with the latest crop of vidcards?
Currently, in one of my machines, I have an ATI Radeon 32Meg DDR, and in my other two machines, I have GeForce2 32 meg cards....

If you want the best performing card than the ATI 9700 is the way to go. There track record with drivers is pretty bad but lately they have made great advances in stability. The Ti4600 is only worth getting if the price is right.

I was up at Best Buy today and they are pre-selling the 9700 for about $390...the Ti4600 is around $320...but the price really isn't going to be an issue...I (for once) want to get the best card that is available on the market...

I currently Have a Radeon 8500 here in my main. It's been running like a champ. Early on ATI had some driver issues, but now they are solid. I haven't had any problems with them. I can't speak for everyone else, but I like my Radeon. Might be looking into moving up to a 9700 here for my main and taking the 8500 and replacing the Voodoo5500 that's in the secondary.
Respect it.
Hmm...may have to consider that down the road...for the time being tho (especially since I have a big lan meet next month), it's gonna come down to one of these two cards...Originally posted by cy
best card probably is the 9700 for now. However if you look at long term, NV30 that's coming out later on this year might own the 9700 since 9700 released before they do, nVidia will have more time to improve theirs![]()

I've heard a lot of good things about the Ti series, but are the differences between the Ti4600 and the 9700 substantial? I mean to the tune of $75 difference between the two?Originally posted by Ken
Indy,
I have the Abit GF4 Ti4400, great card!

All I can say is that the GF4 has had time to be proven, and the 9700 hasn't yet...Originally posted by Indy

Yeah, there is some early release reviews, well a few...
Plenty of reviews out for the GF4...
The 9700 is quite a bit faster than the Ti4600. Especially with FSAA and anisotropic on. Hardocp and Anandtech have benchmark results comparing the 9700 to the Ti4600.

Anandtech's got a nice review up about the 9700...definitely making a strong case for me to go that direction...pretty much whips up on the GeForce card...

I would say from the reviews, 9700 is a faster card, but Ken is right! Should give it more time, at least let Brent finish his review on it, the make your decision if it's not too lateOriginally posted by Ken

Or, you can also wait for the PRO version (ATI). Gigabyte is releasing a 9700 with 400MHz core.
Although, ATI might release them when Nvidia releases their next chip.

Fdisk?

Well, either one will definitely run better than what I've got nowOriginally posted by davy19
I would wait until doom3 comes out and see which card runs the best on it!
Looks like I'm leaning towards the 9700 right now....

These reviews that I'm reading are making it harder for me to go with the 4600:

Looks like the 9700 has a substantial improvement over the GeForce4...
What that translates into in real world situations is not readily known yet, since the card itself doesn't hit the market for a couple of weeks yet...
