right click on my computer

left click find or search (depends on OS)

search for winsock*.*

the only winsock.dll your system should have is the one in your WINNT or Windows System32 (again, depends on your OS)

AOL will always bring its own winsock.dll.

You dont need any but the one in your system32 folder.

I repeat..........CALL aol..and ask for a step 5 fix.

I see this isssue every day, and thats the best resolution for your situation. registry, and winsocks issues are resolved ghost drivers disapear...all sorts of 'mysterious' issues are resolved.

if you get someone that tells you they dont know what your talking about..call back, they are punting you off.

oh hell... this thread will carry on forever... you may aswell just make a backup of all your stuff onto a CD or another partition... then format. Start fresh... without AOL!

Just curious, whats the security level in IE at? No pics, no java sounds like you might have it cranked to the highest level. Worth a shot isn't it?
