what is the difference between comcast cable modem and other brand

I mean if i buy my own brand such as 3COM ...etc i would get better speed

which non-docsis cable modem provides a better downstream

TeraPro or Lancity?

Is there any to improve modem performance via hardware ( i mean switching capacitors on the modem's motherboard to say a 75pf-100pf variable capacitor etc)

Ah, urban legends to the fore!

No, you cannot improve modem speeds by altering the modem.

Non-DOCSIS modems only work when used with a matching CMTS. There are still a lot of non-DOCSIS CMTS out there, but they are mostly Motorolas.
