Micron DDR Or Samsung DDR?

Post by ze2o »

I plan to get a MSI KT3 Ultra, MSI Geforce 3 Titanium 500, and 512 MB DDR, but I dont know which is the better name for RAM. I am considering Micron DDR or Samsung DDR, and does it matter if it is single or double sided?

I'd go for the Samsung 2700

Kingmax and Crucial are good also.

You can't go wrong with Crucial. Cosair is also top grade Ram.

For decent price and reliable 512MB PC2700:

Samsung
Mushkin
Crucial
Kingston
*these range anywhere from $130 - 190USD

For performance, but pricey:

Corsair XMS 512MB PC3000 - 3200 CL2 $200+USD

*click on product catalog at bottom of page, then click "Memory" (if you haven't been there B4)

You may find them cheaper at other sites, though.

Have you ever lived in Europe B4 (where everything with a price tag seems to be jacked-up to 20-50% more than the States)? I should show you prices of one of the "few" comp shops that we have in my area. You'll be glad to pay $130USD for a stick of Kingston 512MB PC2700 online. Example, that same shop wants the same price for the same brand (Kingston) only it's 256MB PC2100!! So you C My POINT!?

Anyhow, if you haven't notice the "*" -denoting that I did mention to look around for cheaper sites, cause no doubt that there are cheaper sites. You see, my situation is that I am currently stationed overseas and newegg.com is one of the few sites that can give me the closest thing to a "guarantee" on APO/FPO shipping hassle free. I don't have a lot of "surf time" available (about a couple a hours a day, which I spend here at SG) due to my 15hr a day job constraints working on $$25 million$$ "equipment" that support/defend our country's interests. YOS, I hope that you now understand my supposed "neglegence" and I apologize to you if I offended you by making such suggestions...but you're right in a way and I could've also mention something about Kingmax and all the others (DDR Ram companies), but like I said I had very little time that day...

Why get x2 256 MB 333 MHz DDR instead of x2 512 MB 333 MHz DDR or x1 1024 MB 333 MHz DDR?

Depends on what you're goin to need all that ram for. If you're doin alot of video editing and alot of xtensive applications then 2x512 is great, other than that, more than 512mb for normal usage such as gaming, surfing, etc. is a waste. You're not goin to need more that 512mb.

That's MHO ;)

Look at the Corsair XMS line of ram.

I have 512mg of the XMS pc2700c2 and it rocks. .it's stable so far up to fsb of 149(298)
I woke up this morning, had them Statesboro Blues.
I looked over in the corner, and Grandpa seemed to have them too.
