Home Network Problem

Post by hatchet »

OK, this has been going on for some time, so I don't remember exactly when it started. I have a small home network with 3 Win98SE machines and 1 WinXP Pro machine. All are connected through a D-Link hub, then to a Linksys Router and then to a cable modem. Everything works just fine except that every time one of the Win98SE machines tries to connect to the XP machine, the XP machine Blue-Screens. I even had a friend stop by with his laptop with Win XP Pro installed and connected to my network. Both XP machines can see each other fine. However, if either XP machine try to connect to the other, the machine being connected to will Blue Screen. This only happens to the XP machines, not the 98 machines. I can connect to the 98 machines from the XP machine with no problems. I have USER Accounts set up in the XP machine and have turned off the Firewall. I hope I am explaining this clearly enough. If anyone has any idea why this is happening, I would love to hear about it. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I have done that. I will double check. Thanks!

Have you checked the event logs for possible clues?

Thanks Technoid, I checked out the event log. Nothing unusual that I could see. There was one error about my Parallel Port being disabled. I don't use it, so I disabled it in the Bios.

The "Blue Screen" I get gives me this information:

Error: NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS

Stop: 0x00000035 (0x82DBA4C8, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Or something to that effect. Any ideas with this problem are greatly appreciated.

I haven't searched the Microsoft Web Site for this error. I guess thats the next step.

It appears to be a problem with your mouse. This article is not specific to your OS, but the error is identical and I have heard of problems with optical mouses under XP...might want to search the HW forum for some details.

Thanks cyberskye. I found that same information on the Microsoft Web Site. That's hard to believe. I have only had 1 mouse on this computer since I installed XP Pro about 7 months ago. One thing I did discover. I was going to check for multiple device entries in the device manager in Safe Mode. Funny thing is that my PC won't let me boot into Safe Mode. As soon as I get the window saying something about this being a diagnostic mode, my PC reboots. It won't finish a boot into Safe Mode. Oddly enough, the PC seems very stable and runs all my apps very well. Can't seem to figure this one out. Maybe a reload of XP will fix this stuff. Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks to those who have responded to this distress signal!
