Rogers@Home High Speed Internet Anomaly

Post by JasonBourne »

I have a dilemma that is quite confusing and frustrating. I have Rogers@Home High Speed Internet and only until a week ago I started getting some interruptions in my internet connection; I would be online for about half an hour and then suddenly it would go offline and then come back online after five minutes. This would happen at various times during the day. I addressed this problem to Rogers and they had sent a technician over to check everything out. The technician did a couple of tests and said everything was fine including the cable modem and the internet signal and contributed the interruption to temporary server problems. Later after the technician left I lost the signal again and like before it came back after five or so minutes. I called Rogers again and they told me that there might be a problem with my Ethernet card, so I called D-Link (the Ethernet card manufacturer) and they adviced me to replace the card. So now I have a brand spanking new Ethernet card by LinkSys. I installed the card just today and everything was fine until seven in the evening when I lost the signal again. I am getting tired of calling Rogers over and over again and frankly they don’t know crap about computers. I would appreciate anyone's help and advice. If there is anything that is unclear please don't hesitate to reply to this message or email me as soon as possible.

My relevant PC Specs are as follows:
P4 1.4GHZ - 256 MB RAMBUS - 40 GB HD - LINKSYS ETHERFAST 10/100 PCI LAN CARD - WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL OS - MOTOROLA CYBERSURF WAVE CABLE MODEM.

Sup Man,

I have @home too, and i have been experiencing the same problem. I talked to the techinican and he said that there has been lots of construction in my neighbourhood and that the high frequncy's were coming in low to my modem. So after 5 days its still pending, meaning there never gonna fix it.

this is a big problum for @home, your getting booted off the server, it all them on not your computer. this can happen for one of two things, big amouts of upload/download from your connection or they have too many connections for there server to handle.

i live in scarboro too... the not so ghetto area... neway rogers is garbage for most users... they cut our speeds in 1/2 without even telling us... we went from 3000/384 to 1500/192... is bull****... u shouldnt've bought a new NIC... its pointless... its a problem at rogers' end... even calling tech support is pointless... most of them dont know **** about computers... they just read their little booklets or whatever they have and tell u to troubleshoot stuff on ur computer even though the problem is clearly on their end... except for like 2 ppl most of rogers' tech support knew about as much as a monkey about the internet... and the ppl that knew something couldnt help me... i say just go to canadianisp.com and pick a isp... sympatico has 5GB/5GB caps... if u go over u gotta pay extra... so just go with some other isp like primus.com igs.net aei.com or some ohter one...

Scarborough is ghetto, well atleast where I live. Anyways you are right about Rogers, they are pretty stupid and incompetent and probably impotent too. hehe.
I didn't buy a new ethernet card, I actually made Rogers give me a new one and guess what the price of it is at Futureshop. $35! I feel so happy, now I have a total of 4 NIC cards. haha. In your face Rogers! Its too bad Sympatico capped out to 5 GB. Its a good service though and if I just limit downloading movies and songs, I might get used to it. Anyways if you find a worth while ISP please tell me about it. I will also check in to Canadianisp.com. Thanks for the advice. Take care.

i got 3 network cards off rogers till now... lol

There are some isp's u should consider, they all resell bell's dsl but u get router thru their own backbone not bell's and the're all unlimited bandwidth
http://www.canadianisp.com is pretty much a isp search site... u'll find like 20 dsl isp's in the toronto area...
also check the canadian broadband forum @ dslreports.com
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,bc
they'll help u find a good isp...
dont get sympatico... its not worth it when u can get a service that is just as fast but is unlimited or has higher caps for a lower price or the same price

Just complain about having problems with the internet and tell them your ethernet card is not working. They will replace it for you then. At first they will try to fix the problem but keep telling them that the internet is not working. Thats what I did and I got 4 nic cards baby! Oh behave! Do I make you Horney Rogers! haha. I'm just excited about the new austin powers movie coming out.
