Need a Tweaker Expert :)

Post by Patapouf »

Hello :)

I follow yours advices and I've goods results speeds now :)
I set my MTU to 1492, RWIN 23232.
My dl and up are fine and my connection works good.

Problem : Online Games are terrible with unstable ping (between 100-300) on the same server. One minute, ping is good, after ping is bad, after good, ...
I know, latency depends on ISP, traffic, ... and I can't improve it.

But, I hope you have some tweaks to stabilize a little my ping :)
I wan't a better ping or a faster DSL but a stable ping :)

My PC :

Windows 2000 SP2 - Athlon 1200 - 512 DDR Ram PC2100
ADSL 512/128 - Alcatel Speed Touch Home - Realtek 10/100 NIC - RasPPPoE 0.98

SG Analyser :

TCP options string = 020405ac01010402

MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which equals MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 23232
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 23232
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 929.28 kbps (116.16 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 371.712 kbps (46.464 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 113 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Speed Test :

2002-07-04 21:40:32 EST: 481 / 133
Your download speed : 481837 bps, or 481 kbps.
A 58.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 133155 bps, or 133 kbps.

As I say, dl and up works fine but online gaming ping ... :mad:

Thx :)

Try downloading Cablenut and use the following settings, the afd buffers may help stabilize your ping.

DefaultReceiveWindow = 23232
DefaultSendWindow = 17520
InitialLargeBufferCount = 1000
InitialMediumBufferCount = 3000
InitialSmallBufferCount = 5000
LargeBufferSize = 409600
MaxFastTransmit = 23232
MediumBufferSize = 150400
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 6400
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 1024
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 23232
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 23232
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 40
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 20
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
DefaultTOSValue = 44

Your settings looks good :)
I've just changed and set DefaultSendWindow=23232.
My ping is more stable and I have less lag.

What values affect the ping then ?
Because I have already tested your settings or Lobo's settings in this thread and I haven't seen difference (for ping but web browsing was faster :) )

Finally, you have been my saviour :D
Thx
