Wireless router question

Post by Joebeme2 »

Hi,

I was planning on getting the linksys Befw11s4 wireless router. I am buying a new laptop soon and I was just wondering if it would be possible to buy a non-linksys pcmcia wireless nic and still be able to connect to my linksys wireless router? Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem

If you're using all 802.11b compliant equipment, they SHOULD all talk together. I've heard people say that it's best to buy all from one manufacturer, however, to reduce finger-pointing in the event you might have problems.

Based on customer comments at buy.com, and also on availability (I was considering the Netgear stuff, but there seems to be a supply problem), I just picked up the SMC 7004AWBR router (and an SMC wireless PC card), and they just arrived. :)

I'm champing at the bit to get home tonight and hook the suckers up!

Hi!
I just bought one myself to see if I can solve the problems that I'm having with my unreal server, a few posts down from yours.
I've read many complaints about the Linksys CARDS with the Linksys router. It is possible to run them IE different cards with a different manufactured router.
I've heard that orinoco is a very good one to complement the linksys wireless router.(I'm not positive if that's how it's spelled) particularly the gold series.
Checkout and search these user forums for more info on the orinoco/linksys wireless info
