Cannot go on internet unless...

Post by bravoboy »

hi i recently got XP

and wen i want to go to the internet ZoneAlarm gives me this thing asking do you want to something something "207.69.188.XXX :D NS" (i put xxx cuz i dont know if this is a bad thing or good)

and i have to say accept or i cant go on the internet

i dont realy know much about IP DNs and stuff but in my knowledge DNS has to do with some1 else's computer so im thinking that i have a virus on my comp and is sending info to it

another weird thing is it asks "do you want [blah] to access the internet/act as server"

i put [blah] which equals blank. like its just blank

it says do you want file: to access:

like its blank

so im concerned if its a virus or somthing. i use Nortonantivirus 2002 to scan my comp but nothing comes up.

also in system mechanic on the startup proceesses i think it is, there are 2 programs that are blank. like no file source or anything, i tried to delete but i couldnt

can some1 please help?

thank you

i selected both

its always disabled

have no idea if its assosiated with my problem

i only think it is because i think i have a virus

If you are using a modem to connect. Everytime you dial in you get a differeent IP addy. ZA is picking this up and asking whether you want to give permission for internet access. If you have permanent connection, cable or dsl, ZA should have found the network info when it started and asked to add it to trusted zone.

Some software needs what ZA calls "server permission" this does not mean anyone or any software is using your puter for a server.
It is safe to anser yes to that question.

Many programs have problems with XP.
Go to ZA's site and see.
Over the last few days in checking out firewalls, I have seen this a lot.
Za claims no problems, but it is a system hog as is XP!
2 hogs = much needed ram!
Anything Norton makes is also a system hog. Stopped using them in 1997, learned the hard way.
Both are hard to uninstall, just uninstalling will not work. Another lesson I learned the hard way...............
