Casio E-125 Cassiopeia w/ wireless network

Post by vulcan4d »

I am looking into buying my first PDA. I read a lot of reviews, and the Casio E-125 seems to be the best for the buck currently. Price is important to me, and I was looking for a Pocket PC that had a 16bit screen, Type II CF expansion port, and a decent processor, and the E-125 has all that.

I don't have much experience with PDA's, nor do I with wireless networking so I need a little help in this department :) . I did a lot of research on the subject but still am a little confused. I was thinking of going with the Linksys wireless products. Am I right to assume it's as easy as getting a Linksys EtherFast Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router w/4-Port Switch and a Linksys Instant Wireless Network CF Card, set them up and I'm up and running? Can I still share and have access to files on my PC? I have a server set up at home, which is running 24/7, can't I just get a Linksys Instant Wireless PCI Card instead of the Access Point router, and let the PDA get internet access and so on from the server? I want to save a little $$$ here :) . These products are rated to handle 11Mbps, but is that also true for upload?

Thanks a lot for the help. The more info I get the better, I'm picking up this PDA next week so I need all the info I can get :) .

You'll still need the WAP (AP or router or base station - whatever your vendor calls it) as far as I know. It is the wireless "anchor" - card-to-card connection wouldn't work.

How many expansion slots does that PDA have and how much storage? What applications will you run? If you only have one slot (taken by the wireless card) you may not have much more than 32M storage. For that, I imagine that 11Mbps will be plenty of speed. It is bi-directional tho heavily affected by line of site. My whoel building is concrete (even internal walls) so I would experience degradation in the next room...

Realize, to, that many websites will not look the same from the PDA. Clipping services are becoming more and more popular (websites designed for viewing via pda) but are not universal. Research whether the 'lite' browser will support pluggins, too. My favorite sites use flash and that may not be supported - don't know.

Have fun,
