help with cdrw

help with cdrw

my problem is simple sometimes my cdrw is there sometimes its not and ive installed the latest aspi drivers and every other driver i can think of its an acer(i know, it was free)8x4x32, ive made sure all wires are plugged in and ide cables r not loose and it just doesnt show up sometimes i have it on master cause its my cdrom too. ive went into cmos and made it master there. plz help
also im on xp pro amdathxp+ 1500 512ddr ram nvida geforce2mx400 64mbagp maxtor 40 gighd and a fujitsu hd 13 gig

There seem to be a lot of problems posted concerning XP not seeing cdroms though i haven't had any myself. Just a couple of suggestions. Have you made sure the second IDE channel is enabled in the bios? Can you try a Win98/Me bootdisk with cdrom support enabled to see if it's working outside XP. You can get one from http://www.bootdisk.com if you don't have one.

Edit, just reread the sometimes thing, forget the first suggestion because if it's there sometimes the channel must be enabled.
